How do you organize shoes in your home? Our are always thrown into a closet and are a constant mess! If a line them up neatly, it only lasts one day....and organization ideas are appreciated!

What can I do next?

I saw this on clean house and on Oprah! You have to go buy the shoe size containers or boot size container. You take a picture of the shoes. Then you put the picture on the side that faces out and put the shoes in the container. Then you stack them nicely. You have the picture on the outside so you never have to open the containers looking for the shoes. And then you know what shoes go in what containers when you are putting them away. That system is easy for the kids too!

I have a couple of these. One over the closet door and two more screwed to the wall in our closet.(one for me/one for DH) One for my daughter on her closet door, and one over the door going to the garage. Our everyday shoes go at the garage door so we take them off there and put them up and put them on when we head out.

I have over 50 pairs of shoes and I was having the same problem. I purchased the plastic see-through shoe boxes and put them all in there. I took a picture of each pair of shoes and put it on the outside of the box. Not only is it neater, but it keeps my shoes in better shape and it tripled the space I have!

If you are talking about your everyday shoes, we had the same problem till we purchased a special book shelf. We have a very small home so ours in the hallway. Each of us has a shelf to place our everyday shoes on. We also have a basket for each of us that we keep things that have not made it into our bedrooms (magazines, gloves, personal items). I purchased it at Ikea. You can also find great deals on craigslist.com

My sister and her family have a bench with shelves under it that they keep their everyday shoes on. It is at the entrance of their home. This bench has Baskets for drawers.
She purchased hers at Pottery Barn.

I have a neighbor that has her kids keep their shoes in their dresser drawers.

For shoes in general you can purchase clear shoe bags that hang from the clothing rod or on the inside of your closet door. You can purchase shoe organizers that have spaces to hold a pair of shoes in each space. These can be purchased in many configurations to fit at the bottom of the closet. My daughter is at college and the have some of these stacked pretty high since they have 1 very narrow closet and way too many shoes and boots. They purchased these at Target. You can get them at Bed Bath and Beyond.

You could also purchase containers for under their beds that are on rollers. They can just dump their shoes in there and push them under their beds.

FYI, I covered the shoe shelves with rubbermade mats they are like shelf paper but made out of thin rubber. This helps so the shoes do not scuff the shelves and tend to grab the shoes and not shift around on the shelf.
