My cousin's daughter was doing the same thing, and she came up with a pretty good way to motivate her to stop. First my cousin made a chart with 7 boxes and gave her daughter a sticker for every day that she did not pick her nose. If all the boxes were filled with stickers at the end of the week, her daughter got to have a special little toy that she wanted as her reward for not picking her nose. But if she did pick her nose again, the toy would be taken away. This worked great for my cousin. Hope this helps!

Hi P., I have a son who is 6 also. He does the same, but not as much as he used to. Why??? Because I ignore it now! If you make a big deal out of it...it's attention, which all 6 yo like! Everyone picks their nose, just ignore it or tell him he needs to go to the bathroom or ask him if he needs a kleenex. He'll get sick of you asking and then he'll stop! Good luck!

Educate him about what "boogers" are - they are the waste of the body - like his poop and pee - help him understand why he doesn't want to eat what his body is eliminating.

Hi P.: good thing you have a sense of humor about it. When I was working in pre-school (and with my own kids) whenever I see a finger going from "scratch" to "pick" the first thing I say is, "Go get a tissue."

This doesn't solve the problem, but they like to pull the tissue out of the box, and it keeps them from eating it after (LOL). Good luck :)
