I RENT AN APT. AND THOUGH IT IS CARPETED, THE WOOD FLOOR UNDERNEATH IS REALLY NOISY. IT CREAKS REALLY LOUD THAT IT WAKES UP MY 10 MONTH OLD AT NIGHT WHEN WE WALK BY HER ROOM. ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO REDUCE THE NOISE WITHOUT HAVING TO REDO THE FLOOR SINCE I JUST RENT?

What can I do next?

You may want to get a sound machine that will drown out any outside noise. They sell them at Bed, Bath & Beyond for $20, I think. We can't live without ours.

i wonder if maybe you nail some of the noisy spots underneath the carpet.

We had exactly the same problem so I asked my dad who is a home builder. He said to pour baby powder over the objecting area and work it into the cracks (we used a rubber mallet to bang on the floor... I'm sure the downstairs neighbors loved that). It clogs up the gaps and greatly cut down on the squeaks. The only problem is that you really have to Swiffer that area. You can't vacuum because it will just pull the powder back out. It worked on our floors and doesn't do any damage since we're renting. Good luck.

Sound machines have helped us here a great deal. Also, have you tried using any rugs or mats on the problem floor areas?
