If it's just fleas then you dont need a vet, you need to purchase either frontline or advantage. You can find it either at a vet's or at petland or petco. I am not discouraging you from taking your cat to the vet if it's got other issues or needs a checkup however if it's feas than save yourself the money. I foster all kinds of critters and this stuff works within hours of applying to the back of the animal, it's very easy. Good luck.

Honestly you can bathe them yourself. Pick them up by the back of the neck just like their mother did when they were kittens. They can't move when you hold them like that. Then wet their neck first and put Herbal Essence on their neck and build up a good lather. After that wash the rest of their body. It doesn't take long because the shampoo kills the fleas on contact. Rinse and have a towel ready to wrap them in. I know it's not easy but it's the best way to get rid of their fleas. We have been fighting fleas all summer. Hoping for a good freeze this winter to get rid ot them. We have tried everything on the market and even drops and pills from the vet. Nothing seems to help. I have tried all the home rememdies people on here gave me also. If you do the vinegar rinse it dries their skin out to much. But you can mix three parts water with one part vinegar and spray it on their beds and anywhere in the house where they lay. It will help to keep you from having fleas out of control in the house.

You do not need to take your pets to a veterinarian to resolve flea problems. You can buy treatments online. I recommend Frontline. It's a little over 10.00 per treatment and the treatment lasts 3-4 weeks. You'll need to use it for several months. Also, the environment needs to be treated. You need to vaccume daily, and possibly even use a bug bomb in the house. Obviously, you need to remove the cats and other living things from the house when you do this. If you need any other tips, just ask.

If you have a pool or know somoeone with a pool that is treated with chlorine, you just have to take them swimming. My parents do this with their cats once a year. My stepmom puts them in the pool and makes thems swim to the side. They hate it and won't speak to her for a couple days afterward, but they don't have fleas.

You can buy both Advantage and Frontline without visiting a vet. These are somewhat expensive but far better/safer products than Hartz (which is just poison) and all those others you can get at the grocery store. The Animal Coalition of Tampa is a good place to go for routine things like vaccinations and spaying/neutering on the cheap. Google them. Good luck.
