Need Suggestions for Winter Beach Trip

We are planning to take a trip this winter with our 19 month-old daughter. She loved the beach over the summer so we'd like to take her somewhere warm and sunny. We are thinking about going to Atlantis in the Bahamas because friends told us that it's a great place for young kids but I'd love to hear some other suggestions. Since this is our first flight with our daughter, we'd like to keep it as short as possible. We're only planning on staying 4 days.

I do know that the waters in the Bahamas get rather cold this time of year. I went for thanksgiving last year, and didn't get to swim very much. The hottest day was in the 80's and the water was freeeezing!! Maybe it was a fluke thing, but look into it before you buy a ticket. I would talk to a travel agent. It's free to talk to them.

The Atlantic is gorgeous but I believe the Kids Club is for kids 3 and up (potty trained). She is really still to young to be involved in a formal kids club in I would say most resorts. Of course most places do have babysitting services. The Bahamas is very close but the Atlantis is pretty expensive (the restaurants are very pricey). Expect her to be with you most of the time but there is lots of really cool stuff there that she would like. Also, is she good at adjusting to new places? Keep that in mind because a cranky toddler can really put a damper on a great vacation.

I agree with the others. Atlantis is VERY expensive. Please keep in mind that your child is young and all she needs is the pool, beach and sand. I would either fly to Miami and stay in SOuth Beach or a BEAUTIFUL resort on the west coast of Florida is Captiva Island- South Seas Plantation. Captiva Island is located by Sanibel Island. Florida is a nice short flight. I would not go anywhere that is dangerous- Domincian Republic- it is not safe to go off the resort.

I've actually heard really good things about Atlantis. They seem to be really family friendly.

Beaches Resorts cater to children and families (or so their ads state). I cannot vouch becasue I have never been but it can't hurt to research it.

I'm not sure how difficult it would be to plan my suggestion, but we took a Disney cruise in the winter and it was wonderful. It went to the Bahamas also. If I can explain the cruise in one word it would be magical, as dorky as that sounds. You can google it and look for any last minute deals, I know they try to fill up the ship. And your daughter would be up close and personal with all the characters. Little girls her age had googly eyes the entire time. It was so cute. Good luck, whatever you decide to do and be safe!
