I would like to find a nice hotel to take my husband for his birthday for one night. I was hoping to find a cool place that has a good restaurant near enough to walk to. I've heard many bad reviews of the Gaylord so I won't be going there but now I'm not sure where to find an above average place. Any ideas?

Hotel Zaza,The Crescent, and the Melrose are my favorites. There is also the W Hotel near the AA center which has the restaurant Kraft, and the Ghostbar up on top. There are tons others within walking distance such as N9NE.
Hotel Zaza has the Dragonfly restaurant, and Crescent has Nobu.
Zaza,W,and Crescent are all going to be pretty expensive for a room, but the Melrose and the Wyndham Anatole Hotel(which has the Nana Grill) are going to be more moderatley priced. All of them great hotels and restaurants so you cant go wrong!
Have you considered a romantic little bed and breakfast? I have been to Elm Creek Manor and it was SPECTACULAR. They cook you diiner, decorate your room with rose petals, and there is the Winstar Casino only 10 minutes away. It is about a 45 min-1 hr drive out of Dallas.

If you would rather stay in Dallas, there is the Corinthian which is located on Swiss Ave. http://www.corinthianbandb.com/
Another is Maple Manor which is in uptown dallas. You can walk to the Old Warsaw restaurant or several others. http://www.dallas.com/maplemanor/
Bed and Breakfasts have a more "intimate" and romantic feel. Hotels seem a little, cliche.
What a wonderful wife you are to do something so special for your hubby's bday. :)

I don't know your price range, but the hotel I would pick for a couple's getaway in Dallas would be Hotel ZaZa. It's a beautiful, fun hotel - it is on the pricey side though. Plus the restaurant there is one of the top rated restaurants in Dallas.

The Mansion on Turtle Creek!!! It's the best! You'll be very pleased. Or, another choice is The Crescent Hotel--very nice, too.

Hotel Crescent Court is the place to go. Rates are lower on the weekends and you can ask for their room packages. They have a great spa and Nobu Restaurant.

The Four Seasons is fantastic! So beautiful. Cafe on the Green restaurant is amazing! So romantic. Call the hotel to book or get a quote and tell them what you want (hotel for one night?/dinner included?/massage? whatever you want)....tell them you'll be celebrating your husband's birthday....they might offer a special deal or give a special treat.

Hotel Intercontinental in Addison. They have a really nice packaged deal. You can stay on the floor that has free happy hour, plus you get brunch for 2 the next day, which is one of the best I have ever been to. There is also a ton of restaurant selections in Addison to choose for dinner.
