I use Dr. Herzog and his NP at Texas Neurology. I've been going to them for 5 years now, and love them both. They have been so helpful. I've gotten migraines for as long as I can remember....I have certain triggers (storm, wine, lack of or too much caffeine, etc) and I get hormonal migraines. They've been great about treating both types. I can't reccomend them enough!!

I would stay away from Dr Walker in Dallas, he is a freaking nutjob.
Dr Casaly in Grapevine is really good, he runs the Headache Center of North Texas, I think out of all the neuro's I've seen over the years, he was my favorite. (I've had migraines for the past 10 years and seen several neuro's and tried lots of medications.)

Be prepared to be put on lots of medication to "control" your migraines though, probably Topamax will be the first thing they give you. I HATED being on the medications, (hated feeling drugged up constantly, really out of it, kinda jittery and super thirsty, just depending on which medication I was on at the time, plus they didn't really help with preventing my migraines that much) so I just dealt with my migraines over the years.

The BEST thing I found to help my migraines was regular, intensive massage. (By regular I mean at least once a week, maybe even twice a week for the first month or so) Once I got my body back in working order, my migraines faded away and now are a rare thing for me.

Good luck mama!!!

I went to Dr. Stewart Black off Walnut Hill and 75 ###-###-####). He is the president of the Headache Association and is the leading guy on research in the US for Menstrual Migraines. I was a sufferer and did get some relief from his medicine therapy (basically an anti-inflammatory plus a migraine pill preceding, during, and after my period), but the most relief I got--almost complete--was from acupuncture. I found an acupuncturist that specializes in hormonal imbalances, Dr. Lin Zhou off Arapaho and 75 ###-###-####). My insurance allowed the acupuncture cost to go towards my deductible (Dr. Zhou files it) because I had already tried everything else!

Good luck!

D.,

I just went through all the migraine stuff this summer. I did end up going to a neurologist, mostly b/c I had some double vision along with it and they wanted to rule out other reasons for my problems.

The neurologist was very informational about the migrains. He gave me samples of meds to take after the migraine started to stop it quicker (won't work for my visual ones since they only last about 20 minutes). He said there were about 18 versions of them so we may have to try several before we find the one that works for me. I either call him for a script of the one that works or get new samples if they don't. He also suggested taking a baby asprin every day to help keep them away.

Anyway, he did a great job of diagnosising and treating my migraines (I actually didn't know I was having them, long story). It can't hurt to go ahead and see one.

Good luck!!!

I have heard of Dr. Herzog as someone mentioned on here, but my Mom, my cousin, and I see Dr. John Harney in Dallas. He specializes in migraines. Alot of neurologists don't actually specialize in migraines but he does. I went to a Dr. Hinton and he acted like everything was mental. Grr. Anyway, I'd recommend Harney.
