I need Christmas gift ideas for my son. He will turn 4 in January. I don't want to get a bunch of toys that will just sit mostly unused. Anything you ladies have bought for your little guy in the past when they were my son's age that was a hit?! Thanks!

What can I do next?

My son and daughter are really into dress up. My son is into being a superhero (any kind). So, my husband and I are making the kids dress up trunks for Christmas. My sons will be full of superman, batman etc., and daughters w/princess etc. I should add my son is 3 and my daughter is 1. :)

My nephew is the same age, and I'm getting him his own boom box w/ some CD's to go along. He would also love one of those life like kittens or dogs. My sister is thinking of getting him an iPod dog (?)...I'm not really sure what that is, but that way she can download a play list to his ipod & play it.

For my sons 4th birthday I bought him the WII. It was a little expensivie but it is something that he can play with and so can the whole family alone or together. My son loves it.

At four, my son loved things that he could build - lincoln logs, legos, etc.... And he loved hot wheels and really anything with wheels. We did buy him a race track at that age. It was not a hot wheels track - something with electrical cars - very cool - we found it at Toys R Us. Someone bought him an actual "smaller scale Ace Hardware tool set" which was very fun. Looked just like regular tools but for smaller hands. He is ten, now, and the hammer is still a good size for him. Sleeping bag is good - you won't have to upgrade that for a few years. However....I don't think anything beats a bicycle under a tree!

Enjoy....it was such a great age for both of my kids!

My daughter got magna tiles for Christmas last year and it is the one toy (beside dress up clothes) that she consistently plays with. They are tiles that have magnets inside of them (so they are very safe) and they come in squares (big and small) and several different kinds of triangles. They can be used to make houses, castles, animals - it's limited by your imagination. They are kind of expensive http://www.amazon.com/Magna-Tiles-Clear-Colors-piece-set/...

Hi Kim~
When my son was going on 3, he got a "band" type of toy. It had a keyboard with an attached microphone. He LOVED it & played on it every single day. We just got rid of it just under a year ago, only cuz my husband played it, and his shirt got stuck as he ran & broke it. Otherwise, I'm sure we'd still have it.
Another thing he got last year, when he was going on 5, was a telescope. He is absolutely fascinated with it. That worked well as a toy & an educational toy also.
I hope this helped a little bit.

my daughter will be 4 in January too. We got her a kid digital camera, found a fisher price one for 35.00 on ebay. She constantly wants to use mine so i figure she'll love it. My mom is going to get her a sansa shaker, which is a kid MP3 player with big buttons, easy to hold, and load with music. I think it was on sale at Toys r us for 20.00? She also loves to draw so we got her some art supplies. I want to get her some dress up clothes/shoes so she'll stop wearing mine. I'm going to look for clearance princess outfits/shoes after halloween.

Since all but the princess outfits are pretty gender neutral of course that could be changes to pirate outfits, superheros and such I thought I'd share. Good luck!
