Omg some of these answers if you a citizen etc or just go find another job. She is working and someone is cutting her salary which she uses to take care of herself and her kids probably.Seriously who is on this site who isnt a mom. Now my question to you are you working for a private employer like just one family or are you in a company that hires you out? If its a company you need to look at your handbook. If they are changing the arrangement then there has to be a reason. Maybe they are having financial problems.Maybe they have issues with you or someone does. Who knows. I would take this as a sign to to spruce up your resume and see whats available around. You have to think of your next place of work. If you are a nanny a reference is very important so you do not want to leave your job with a bad reference or no reference. If the cuts affect your child and yourself I'd sit with the owner and be up front but not compative. Say I'm sorry if I get a cut and loose benefits it will put me at a disadvantage to take care of my child. Find out why. Say thank you and then start looking. Stay professional and nice

You have the right to negotiate or to find employment elsewhere.

I understand your frustration..however, given this economy anything goes these days. I would look at your contract again to see if there is a clause that talks about how they reserve the right to make changes at any time. I know it's tough but if you don't like it time to look for something else. My company eliminated pension, 401K match and redid how much vacation you can earn. I was hoping to get three weeks vacation but now they raised it to two more years of service before I can....Discouraging but that's business.

Find another job. If you are a legal resident of the US, you shouldn't have a problem.

Is this because they no longer need you as often? or they feel they are paying too much? If they are looking to cut back to hourly then they may not be able to afford a full time nanny. If they are trying to cut it out before the contract end that is not ok. but if it is happening when time to renew the contract tell them your going to look for something else. give them notice and move on.

What is the stated duration of your contract (certainly not forever)? Are they cutting it to hourly because the kids are starting school and it will not be a full time position? What does your contract say about renewals or changes?

We don't need to know the answer to these questions but you do, if we knew the answers we could better give you advice. You are always able to try to negiotate and/or find alternative employment.

Okay, what is your question exactly? Honestly, if there is no contract there is no reason a change can not be made but all parties have to agree, you can always find work elsewhere.

Depends on your contract. How long is the contract duration? What Exactly does your contact say? (You don't have to answer there, it's a question for you to answer.) Just because, you contract says what they will pay you...does not necessarily mean they can't legally cut your pay. Like I said, it totally depends on your contract. You only have as many rights, as your contract states. (As far as what you are asking here.) This question is very vague, and very difficult to answer without knowing anything about your situation. If they are cutting your pay and benefits for some kind of performance problem, then you probably are completely out of luck. If you are not a legal citizen (I'm not assuming, but you never know!) then you have no rights pertaining to salary and paid vacation.

You should probably look for a new job. If you do look for a new job, leave your current on good standing. References are so important.

Are the changes being made after your contract expires or in the middle of your contract? Sounds like you need to start looking for a new job?

You should either accept this new salary or look for another job. When you find one you can give notice to your current employer.

As a nanny you are basically a babysitter who works in "their" home and not yours. They have every right to tell you that they are not paying you the same way.

I was a nanny for several years. I am still very close to the family. I got paid by the hour, per child in the home for that day but not for school kids over 8 years old. If a child stayed home from school sick I would not be responsible for them. They were pretty much able to watch themselves and didn't need me to tell them what to do. They had their own phone line and could call mom, a professor of nursing at a local college. If I was not there the school kids would have been home alone if they had a fever or something like that. If they were very sick they of course went to the doc with mom or dad.

I also got paid separately for different chores I would do like starting dinner or loads of laundry.

If I had 2 boys all day (8 hrs.) and one girl after kindergarten (3 1/2 hrs) then I got paid by the hour for 3 kids for the amount of time they were in my care.

Then I got paid per load of laundry I washed and per load of clothes I dried and put up. There were 7 kids and 2 adults in the household so there was always loads and loads of laundry to do. I was always honest so she could trust me.

Then I got paid for starting dinner, only paid for 1 hour. I often only charged 1/2 hour though.. Mom worked 8-5 and dad worked from 7-3. He was always home right after school, by 3:30pm. He was often very glad that the prep work was done and meat was cooking. If he didn't want me to start dinner then I did not get paid for that chore.

The kids did all the cleaning when they got home from school with dad supervising so I didn't have any cleaning to do. If I did that she would have paid me more. I did do some office work for mom when the kids were napping but that was not every week or even every month.

I was free to take the kids wherever I wanted, we could go on field trips, go shopping, out to eat, I often took the kids to rehearsal for the group I sang in, they also went to every performance. I was their surrogate mom, not just a staff person.

When the kids all stated kindergarten I only worked half a day and they had him in mornings so that I could come in at noon. I still only got paid for the jobs I performed.
