My Toddler Throws up with Little Warning

My son seems to have some weird phenomenon when it comes to throwing up. He acts perfectly normal right up until and right after he throws up. He doesn't seem sick at all yet he's thrown up more than I would imagine to be normal. I've asked the doctor about this and he said it could be a number of things, but none to worry about since he has no other symptoms. I'm wondering if anyone else has ever come across this and what you did about it.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

This time around it's turned into the stomach flu. Asthma runs in my family though, my brother and I had it particularly bad, so I'll definitely keep an eye on that. Thanks for all the input! It really helps to know I'm not the only one going through this:)

My son had the same issue and it turned out to be reflux. He was put on Previcid(1 box) and than we put him on Probiotics and he is doing great. I use a company called Natren for the probiotics. (www.natren.com) They are very helpful and can help you will the dosage.

Good luck!

I was also going to suggest asthma or could also be reflux. Our little neighbor girl had this problem too and it turned out to be reflux. It did go away though, as she got older. Also, medicine helps minimize--ask your doc.

Unfortunately, if your son is like mine...you (and your husband) get to clean up vomit for the near future, until your son grows out of it. My son did the same thing. It would happen anywhere...the store, the house, the car (that's lovely to try to clean). He finally grew out of it around age 2.5. Good luck to you.

Hi L.,

My daughter is 2 1/2 and has a similar problem. At first she would basically throw up on demand...If I were to go to the store and leave her home...she would throw up or if I would send her to time out...etc. But last week she threw up 6 times within 2 days and was not sick at all, she would just play as normal...throw up...cry (because of the mess) and then continue to play if nothing happened... My 3 year old son has asthma but has never thrown up but after Trudi's comment it makes me wonder?

Hi L.,
My question would be is this associated with any kind of activity or after a meal or something.

I might suspect asthma. Our family has a history of ashthma and rather than weezing we cough and/or throw up. If he has had a meal and his body is sending blood to digest the meal and not giving his lung the extra blood to give him the oxygen they need this maybe what is going on. If it is associated with running and playing and his lungs maybe needing the extra oxygen then. I have suspected asthma with my 2 yr old daughter, but I have been told that docs don't want to make that call when the children are so young. But when my daughter has a cold and I feel she needs it I give her a treatment w/ alburterol and she can run and play and eat and I have been very honest with her pediatrician and he has told me that if it works great.

Thats my 2-cents worth... hope that helps.
