My Six Year Old Won't Eat a Thing!

My six year old won't eat anything besides hotdogs hamburgers and mac and cheese! I force him to try other things. I wish he could like some of them though. Any advice? He eats ketchup on everything I give him. It has been a savior sometimes. Thanks for the advice. I never thought about using the blender like I do with my 5 month old. That should make a lot of difference. We will see. Thank you everyone.

What can I do next?

I agree with all the ones who posted before me...keep offering, hide the good stuff in the foods he likes and don't give up! My grandson is also one who will eat anything if he can dip it in ranch so I give him baby carrots and ranch almost every day. He dips chicken in ranch, fries in ranch...he even eats salad because he can have reanch on it! lol. He like to eat peanut butter with a spoon so I let him, it's full of protein. I don't care as long as he eats! lol. If your son likes milk shakes, blend fruit into them and add some Pediasure instead of milk. Raisins and bananas are really good, too, for potassium and muscle growth...if he wont eat bananas, put it in a shake, buy him some cool straws and make it fun. My grandson loves cereal so I cut up strawberries or bananas and put it on his cereal. If he likes cookies, make some oatmeal cookies and you can put walnuts or pecans and raisins in them or buy the already made oatmeal cookie dough. I buy oat bread instead of white and he can't tell the difference, but he gets fiber. I buy small cans of mandarin orange segments and I give him the whole can and he thinks that is so cool and I don't have to peel them! I leave grapes, small apples, and bananas out on the table and he knows he can have them any time, but you have to set an example by eating the same things yourself....kids are smart and they aren't going to eat something you wont eat! lol. Good luck!

Atleast he's eating. I got a message on what to do with a child tht won't eat anything. Take him out to dinner that doesn't serve hot dogs and burgers and ask him to try something new. Don't give in and if he doesn't eat take him to get what he wants. remember when we had to eat what was fixed? exactly

You are doing the right thing, just continue to offer a variety of foods, he will either eat them or he wont. Forcing him to try and eat new foods could have a negative effect. Just make it all look appetizing and tell him how much you enjoy it and he may try things on his own. Keep pouring on the ketchup! Add a daily vitamin to his diet and you have nothing to worry about! There tastes change as they get older!

I hide good stuff in the little my picky eaters will touch. If you have a blender or food processor, get it out and start pureeing veggies and hiding them in that mac'n'cheese, or spag sauce if he eats that. Mix the puree into the hamburger meat before cooking, which can also make them juicier. Fruits can go into fun milkshakes for breakfast. Also, try putting "sprinkles" on his food: wheat germ!
You can hide all sorts of good food, and the kid'll never know! Good luck, from one mom of two picky eaters!!

M. u dont have anything to worry about. My 8 yr old was the same way when he was 6. He still has his favorite foods to eat but he is starting to eat better. When he was about 2 yrs old he was diagnoised FTT which is Falier To Thrive. Its a medical condition which he can grow out of and he is starting to he is going to b 9 yrs old in Dec and just now up to 51 pounds. All i can tell u is let him eat what he wants and encourage him to try other things and u will find out that it works alot better than trying to force him to eat what u want him to and also try getting him some shakes that are out if ur worried about him not getting the right nutrition and also try some multivitimans. Good luck and please let me know if anything works my email is ____@____.com

Hello,
Try to give him dipping sauce for everything. Ranch dressing, ketchup, or cheese are a hit at our house. My kids don't care for cooked veggies, but give them to them raw with ranch dressing and you would think it was candy. Also remember that kids that are not growing will not eat no matter how much we worry. He will get out of his phase and eat again, just don't give in and keep offering everything else.
Good luck,
M.
