Took him to doctor in ER doctor said he was okay, didn't do any tests. The following day he developed a big bump on his forehead,so we took him to PCP doctor and she sent him to get c.f. scan. They said everything good, but this morning he now has another bump on the other side of his forehead. What do I do?

What can I do next?

Glad you went to ER first. If PCP ordered a scan (CT?) and it was negative, then the second bump is probably okay too. I'd give a call, but if they tell you to just do ice, that wouldn't surprise me. But do ask about giving any pain relievers that could cause increased bleeding inside the brain - don't do that for any reason (pain, any fever) without express direction from the pediatrician aware of this situation.

FYI noses and mouths can bleed a lot and also show swelling. That's common after falls and not necessarily anything that needs intervention. But again, call.

On the plus side, my pediatrician told me that little kids have pretty thick skull bones on the forehead and at the back of the head, where they take most of their bumps from falls. It's probably fine, but the main lesson to learn is that pediatricians keep a 24 call line with their nurses and always one pediatrician (from same practice, or from a partnering practice) on call and available to parents. Don't be afraid to use that before you rush in for a second appointment if it's not a clear emergency.

I would call. Sounds like you've done the right thing but I agree. I'd want to know why another bump has appeared. I know with my kids, goose eggs appear a day or so later. Usually we just get the one where they've whacked it. You'll probably feel better if you just check in. Just watch for the signs too - blurry vision, nausea, headache, etc. I'm sure they covered that with you. It's likely nothing but why stress. Good on you for being so attentive :) Good luck

I think you did just what you should have done. You could call and let the doc know that another bump showed up but since they already did a scan, they will probably tell you it is fine. My daughter, now 7, followed me to the basement when she was almost 2. She had been outside that day with dad and her little car was right by the back door. She got on it and "rode" it down the cement stairs leading to the basement. All I heard was screaming. She was fine. No dizziness or anything. Today, if she wrinkles her brow, you can see a line about 3 inches long on her forehead. It is in the bone. But she is fine. Doc says no damage.

I'd just like to say that I was relieved to read how you handled this emergency. As for the second bump, call PCP to let them know.

The tests that he had done should have seen any damage to the skull, like if it's broken or anything, plus it should show if he has a concussion/blood in the brain area. Call the doc's after hours number and ask them what they say.

If you have a feeling somethings wrong then get a second opinion!! You have been around him longer and therefore can notice any problems that you can report to the doctor.. I would say monitor any changes in his behavior and eating habits..
