My Index Finger Hurts...

Okay...I know because I have Googled that it is either arthritis, a sprain, or over use...and I will need to go see the doctor in a few days if ibuprofen, ice, and the usual treatments don't help it feel better.

But it really hurts!! It is the first joint from the top by my fingernail on my right index finger. Even touching it hurts, squeeze on the top/bottom or on the sides and it throbs. It is slightly swollen, but not red or hot to the touch. I didn't injure it in anyways that I can remember...

It aches when I am not using it, but shooting pain when I forget and use it in a way it doesn't like...oh like typing this.

So what weird pains have you dealt with that have been totally "nothing" and when have you waited and had the pain be "something"?

Just curious...cause if I had actually injured it I would swear it might be broken...lol.

What can I do next?

It might be infected. If I were you, I'd get to the doctor. You may need antibiotics for a staph infection.

If you go see a Doctor for it "in a few days" the Doctor might not be able to diagnose it accurately... because several days would have gone by.
And your symptoms could change.

Go to an urgent care already.

I had trigger finger in both index fingers from overuse. (I am a glass artist). My fingers ended up getting so swollen they actually looked grotesque. My doctor referred me to a hand surgeon who gave me cortisone injections. They injections were wicked but they worked. Within 24 hours all swelling was gone and I could move my fingers normally.
You may want to try buddy taping your injured finger to your middle finger. Google "buddy taping" if you don't know how to do it. It is super easy and may provide you some relief.
Feel better!

My left shoulder keeps going numb, but they tell me it's nothing. Sigh.

I waited around during my first kidney stone for hours, thinking it was just the worst cramping I'd ever had...and then it got so bad I thought I was going to die and had to stand in the car (it can be done!) on the way to the hospital because I couldn't sit.

I suffered many sprains in both wrists in my youth and as a result have fairly severe tendonitis, but it hasn't flared in years. I think was finally worked was some electro-shock something therapy. It's been awhile.

I know the feeling, though...I hope your finger feels better soon!

R., I am sorry! That totally sucks. I hope you feel better soon.

This week I woke up super sick and on top of that had a horrible toothache, so bad that I was absolutely sure I would need a root canal. I was considering moving up my dentist appt- which is just next Tuesday, so it was bad enough that I did not think I could wait a week. I gargled Listerine multiple times and was downing tylenol. Anyway. the tooth pain is gone- my husband mentioned that sinus pressure can cause toothache especially in those top teeth, so that is what it was. Weird!
