If you found out one of your daughters friends was going around school saying you are hot and sexy, would you laugh it off, or over analyze it?
Its kinda funny, but I found myself a little creeped where a 7 year old girl is getting this from....

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I know her parents well, but I would be way too embarrassed to have this conversation with them!

Oh great! More to look forward to! ;)

CAE- That is too funny!

I may talk to her about when she is over, and just let her know I am not upset, but it bothers my daughter.

My daughter says she does this weird movement when she says it like, ohhhhh. lol. Silly girl! Children....

So Toni, this is my fault?

I went on a 2nd grade field trip with my kid. His classmate leans over the bus aisle & whispers to me, " I just had to tell you... You are one HOT MOM!". I just think kids hear this stuff & don't realize it's inappropriate. I would laugh it off.

I'd go to the friend's teacher and ask her to have a talk with him. I had to go to the middle school principal years ago and ask him to have a talk with one of the boys. It was an all boys school, so they didn't have girls there to talk about, and it was the beginning of practicing that kind of talk. Unfortunately, he was using a mom to practice on.

I told the principal that I understood that it wasn't really personal, but I felt that he needed to explain it to the boy and his friends. I also wanted to feel that I could walk the halls without feeling weird around the boys.

Hope this helps...

Dawn

AFTER READING YOUR SO WHAT HAPPENED:

No,not at all...I just feel terminology like "hot and sexy" is not appropriate or typical for children so young. I don't know if you have a photo on your profile, but I'm about to take a look.

I would feel sorry for the child and ask myself what impression am I giving to small children and others.

When I was working elementary school, I walked into one of the kindergarten classrooms and one of my precious boys calls out "Mrs R you look sexy today!" Its probably how he hears his dad compliment his mom so he was trying to be sweet and say something nice to me. I tried to explain he should use the word "beautiful" instead but I had a hard time putting the "why" into kinder speak... I decided next time I'd just smile and say "thanks!"

A couple years ago, one of the tutors that works with a lot of my 8th grade boy students decided to tell me the boys all say I'm hot... now THAT is creepy. This year a got a much dorkier shorter haircut and wear my glasses around school more often.

She doesn't actually think that, you know. She has no concept of what that actually is. I'm willing to bet she heard it in a song, or on TV.

Unless it seems like she's having problems, I think this really isn't a big deal. Sure, she should know that it's not something she should be saying. However, her saying this, does not mean something is going on!! She probably repeated it once and got a reaction. So, that's why she's saying it again.

I wouldn't feel weirded out, because she doesn't KNOW what she's saying is inappropriate. She doesn't even know what sexy is.

Obviously she heard it from someone, or somewhere, and has no clue what it actually means. I think it's kind of unfortunate, honestly. No offense, I'm sure you're totally a hottie !!

Ummmm...as the mom of a 4th grader, I can tell you the things kids say would curl your hair! I don't find this surprising talk from a 7 year old. Who knows what movies/tv shows/music she's exposed to.
Funny that she obviously doesn't understand the odd angle of her saying it about her friends MOM! Lmao!

a 7 year old little girl saying it, sounds more like parroting without really "knowing" what she's saying. i would laugh it off, although it is inappropriate. maybe talk to the teacher, or send an email? MAYBE you could even swing it so that you don't mention "who" was being called "hot and sexy" - just that your daughter heard it and you'd rather she not hear that at school repeatedly. just a thought...

you got Hot? I got "hey M your mom looks Frumpy"

FRUMPY... where did a 5 year old get FRUMPY... and what the heck I actually dressed nice that day and combed my hair, which wasn't the usual thing.

laugh it off, tell her to not listen to it, 7 year olds talk.. that's all it is.

she's parroting what she's heard elsewhere. but isn't it a pity that THIS sort of thing has become the common vernacular instead of 'isn't miss molly pretty? i want to be like her when i grow up!'
so i don't find it amusing, but i certainly wouldn't get creeped out over it. just another sign that our myriad of conversational venues are backfiring and people are becoming less articulate and capable of expressing themselves appropriately.

Who did you hear it from, your kid, another kid, a teacher?
Unless you hear it from the horse's mouth, ignore it, it sounds like someone's just trying to get you riled up, or get your attention...

If she said it once or twice or just on one day and then dropped it, I'd ignore it. If your daughter is reporting this and is upset, I'd address it. If it's ongoing, I'd address it with either the teacher or the principal, and the school psychologist if there is one. My reaction would change based on whether this child heard it somewhere else (whether about you or someone else), whether there's some precipitating event in her own life that requires investigation, and whether it's an ongoing habit that is spreading (and making other kids either uncomfortable or likely to imitate her and perpetuate this kind of talk, thinking it's cool or acceptable). I agree they don't necessarily know what "hot" or "sexy" means, and that kind of talk is rampant in the music they may hear, but it's really not okay to be talking about women that way. I'd take steps to nip it in the bud.

Yikes! Girls really do mature faster than boys. I have a 7 year old boy and I haven't heard him describe anyone as sexy or hot. On the other hand, my daughter, 5, loves singing "I'm sexy & I know it" (That is the only words to the song she knows, she saw them on GMA. I asked her what sexy meant & she said, "It means I'm cool and I know it Mom!"

Does she have older brothers or sisters? Maybe she heard them say that about someone. I wouldn't sweat it. I am sure your are not running around with hot pants and a tube top for the kiddies.

Molly,
you are a MILF !!!!!

Maybe have a conversation with the girl herself about how it is inappropriate? Unfortunately she is probably getting it from TV. {sigh} kids are over exposed now a days.

I'd wonder where she heard it and which adult is the creepy one!
Why don't you talk to the girl and tell her it's inappropriate to say that about you. I'll bet she'll be mortified when she finds out you know!

A 7 year old is repeating. I'm sure she has no real basis for an opinion. What do 7 year olds know about what's sexy and hot? They don't really know what those terms imply. I"m not saying she's off because that would be insulting you sight unseen. I'm just thinking she's got older siblings that have used the terms and she's using them w/out knowing the appropriation or meanings. She's probably thinking you're a pretty lady for a mom.
