Hi Moms ~ so I've tried searching on line and there were so many books I couldn't find the needle in the haystack that I'm looking for - I'm hoping you have a recommendation!

I'm looking for a book that shows which muscles are being targeted and which exercises you can do specifically for those muscles, including using weights - but not necessarily on machines as I'm probably not going to spend that kind of money.

Does anyone know of such a book or even a good web site (which I also could not find)?? Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I went to the book store and flipped through Womens Health Big Book of Exercises and it was EXACTLY what I was looking for and picked it up. Thanks for the recommendation M.R.!

Womens Health Big Book of Exercises is outstanding.

You will absolutely love it. It has a chapter for each muscle, with basic lifts, advanced lifts, modifications, etc. It also has sample routines and even offers things like the home workout, the body weight workout, the I only have 15 minutes workout, as well as cardio plans, stretching, and information on weight loss and nutrition.

Hands down, it is one of the best comprehensive yet user friendly manuals of lifting around. It does NOT sell one single program; it is more of an encyclopedia of lifting complete with pictures for every lift.

Costco has anatomy for weight lifters and Anatomy for Yoga. They are great books that show which muscles are being used and how the weight or Yoga move tones and helps that muscle. It is a great tool and learning item as well.

There's a book called Strong Women Stay Slim by Miriam Nelson that I used as my initiation into weight lifting. It's very basic, but it's a great routine and a good place to start. It only requires basic hand weights. I know she has other books and when I searched to get her name, I see that she has quite a few web resources too and possibly some videos. Here's a link to one of her sites, just in case you're interested. Hope this helps!

I have Jorge Cruise's 8 Minutes in the Morning book. He targets different muscle groups each day. I haven't found the weights I need/want yet, so can't tell you how well it works, but it looks promising.
