Mirena vs Pill

It would be worth trying Mirena again. Go to experienced fitter and there should be no problems with insertion. General problems are irregular bleeding over 6-12months after insertion, the body can expel the IUCD (this is the same with any IUCD), rarely although it can happen the uterus is perforated at insertion and the coil may be elsewhere. This is not harmful although may be painful and would need an operation to remove(again same with any coil) but generally well tolerated and very effective.

I use Nuvaring and i love it. it is small ring that you put in yourself like a tampon, and leave in for 3 wks, then take out for one. Then put the new one in for 3 wks, you see the pattern. It's definitely the best BC ive ever been on.

If he is on the verge of coming home and you do not want another baby, please get prepared. The pill was great for me for over 20 years. Finish school, enjoy your son and your hubby!!

I would suggest that you do NOT do the Mirena again! I had it put in when I had my son and they too put it in the wrong way and I was in extreme pain. I went two months of pain since the doctor's kept telling me that it was "normal" and that my body needed to get use to it. Also, while I had it in I kept bleeding and even had major clotting. One time I had a clot the sice of a baseball! And that was when I went in to be seen and they claimed that the major blood clot I had was probably the IUD. Yet, I continued to suffer from alot of pain, went in multiple times to be seen, they checked me and still could'nt find it. They did cameras and everything. Then finally I called my doctor yelling and crying telling him that something was wrong and that I was in alot of pain, finally he had me go in and they did a cat-scan on me and finally found it. It was laying between my rectum and uterus! I was bleeding internally alot, which explained why my stomach was blowing up so huge!
They had to perform surgery and called me back in the same day they did the cat scan. I still til today have internal scarring on my uterus! I even have the internal photo's that were taken by my doctor, they were shocked! I was lucky that I kept going in because I literally had alot of internal bleeding and which would of probably led to death! (thank god that was'nt the case!) Needless to say, I would'nt recommend getting the merina! I have tried birth control pill's, only problem with that was that I was afraid I would forget to take them. I also tried the depo shot, I loved it! I only got the shot every 3 month's and maybe got my period only once which would last 1 day! Some people say that they have gained weight on the depo but I really never had that problem, just talk to your doctor and see what options you have and test them out! Hope I was helpful!

I have had the Paragard IUD which doesn't have any hormones & can be used for up to 10 yrs. Have had it for 2 yrs. now without any problems what so ever!! Prefer it way over the pill. Was not painful at all to get inserted or since. Would def. recommend Mirena or paragard IUDs!

The Mirena is nice because you don't have to worry about forgetting to take your pill. But if you've had complications with it before, I'm not sure if you'd want to try it again; but it's up to you. Personally I didn't like the Mirena because I stopped getting my period and I was always paranoid that I was pregnant again. At least with the pill, I was on a regular cycle (before I took the pill my cycles were always irregular). I've been on the pill for a few years and it's been fine; I use Ortho-Tri-Cyclen. Every woman reacts differently to the hormones; some women are fine, some cannot tolerate it. I would make an appointment with your gynocologist and see what he/she recommends for you. I'm on Trivora-28 (bc pill)...I've historically had trouble finding a pill that works for me, and this one has been fine. Of course hormones work with everyone's body differently.

Someone mentioned the Nuvaring below - a girl in one of my prenatal fitness classes when I was pregnant with my son got pregnant while on the Nuvaring. She was a nurse, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't a case of misplacement or anything. Just wanted to mention that.

I've heard a lot negative things about Mirena - I know several people that have had it. I'd go with the pill personally. If you don't want anymore children ever, go with Essure. But if it's just for a year or so, I'd say pill. Especially since you've already had issues with Mirena once.
