I have had the Paragard IUD for 2 and 1/2 years and love it. I have never had any problems with it at all. I love that it doesn't have hormones, but is just as effective. My periods are heavier without the hormones, but not uncontrollable and they are very regular each month. It was easy to have inserted and I had some cramping and spotting later that evening, but it was well worth it. I love the fact that I don't have to think about my bc each day or even each month anymore.

I have the Mirena and have had it for close to 2 years without any problems. I had it put it when I was nursing so I haven't had any periods. Some people don't like that but I am ok with it. I really don't feel any side effects from it and my husband has never mentioned feeling it. The good thing about it is if you don't like it, you can have it taken out.

I have paragard and have loved it, I've had it about four months now and haven't had any problem with the strings at all. My husband hasn't ever noticed them. I went the hormone free route because I have was already having some trouble with my thyroid, seperate issue, and really didn't want to alter my hormone levels if it wasn't necessary, I just really wanted to know how I felt without anything else. Plus it lasts twice as long as the mirena

I have Paraguard and have not had any problems. My husband can't feel anything. I really like it because I had a very difficult time using any birth control with hormones (crazy mood swings and absolutely no sex drive) so a minimal/no maintenance birth control without hormones is ideal.

My husband doesn't feel it at all, not even the string, and neither do I. I even have a tilted uterus and I still don't have any problems with it. The string feels a bit like the plastic thing that holds the tags on the clothes at the store at first, but you don't even notice it and it softens up very quickly. I only know what it feels like because I asked them to let me feel it before it was put in so I could tell my hubby what he was supposed to be checking for (he checks once a month after my period to make sure that the string is still there).

Personally I always felt like I was poisoning myself when I was on hormonal birth control (probably because I always responded so negatively to it), so I chose the ParaGard. I'm very happy with my decision and haven't regretted it in the three years I've had it. It has been very effective (and we've put it through it's paces for sure!). It did cause some heavier bleeding for about the first 6 months until my body adjusted to it, but to me that was a small price to pay for non-hormonal, set and forget birth control that's good for 10 years!

I do know that some women have experienced problems with IUD's, but I never have so I can't go into details about that. Just make sure that you know the risks vs. the benefits of any method of bc before you take it.

Well I guess I'm the odd one out. I have the mirena. It took a while to get over the major boost in hormones, I still feel a little off at times. But my husband can totally feel the strings. I've had to get them cut back twice! And he can still feel them. Basically he gets a stinging poke while having sex, and he says it's unpleasant. I may have to get it out because I don't want our intimacy ruined. Then I'll go back to the nuvaring.... I never had problems with it.....

This must be IUD day! This is the third birth control question I have answered with IUD info today!
The difference between the mirena and Paraguard is hormones. I was on the pill for 15 years before I got an IUD. When talking to my doc about which to get he didn't encourage me one way or the other, but I decided I would like to try the hormone-free route. I have had no problems. Insertion is easy, the doctor puts it in at a routine appointment. I had minor spot bleedinig and minor cramping that night.
Your husband will not feel the IUD, though he may feel the string on occasion. My husband says he did sometimes in the beginning, but not lately. Though, he said it never hurt or irritate him in anyway, he just felt something.
Things to consider with you and your doctor are do you need the hormones? do you have regular periods? Have you had problems with hormonal bc before? how long do you want this? Mirena is good for five years, paragard is good for 10.
I have had mine for close to 2 years now. Got it put in while still nursing my daughter. My periods were irregular and heavy for a few months, but I think that had just as much to do with nursing/hormone issues. Now my periods are clock work, not heavy and about 4 days.
My best friend has the Mirena and got it about 4 months before i got mine. She has irratic periods, heavy painful periods, had weight gain, and break outs.
Every person is different. So get the info, go with what sounds best to you. If it doesn't work out, it is easy and painless to have removed and you could always try the other one.

Hi L. ... I also am going to get the IUD as soon as my first shot of Depo Provera wears off. My two aunts have them and swear by them. NO, your husband cannot feel it; you can't feel it; it's tiny, literally almost microscopic. But I don't know about the difference between Mirena and ParaGara. You've sparked my curiosity. i have to look into it now. but the ppl i know who use IUDs swear by them. my problem is i will feel weird just knowing something's implanted in there. even though i know i can't feel it!

I had the paragaurd and loved it. No hormones to mess with my emotions/weight the way BC pills did. My friend has the mirena and has gained a ton of weight since getting it. However she has almost no period now so she is taking the weight for the no period. When her 5 years of having it is up she has decided to get her tubes tied. I liked that the paragaurd lasted 10 years. I had it taken out to have another child after 2 years though.
