This is so bizarre. I have never attributed any health issues I've had in the last two years to my IUD, but I just read about 50 messages on a health board about Mirena side affects and many of them mirror mine. I went to the doctor today because I've seriously been wondering if I'm going through menopause at 33. I am the same weight (or even a few pounds more) I was when I was nine months pregnant. I run regularly, eat fairly well (not at all perfectly though), and in addition to some rigorous almost daily exercise I take frequent stroller walks with my toddler.I'm also still nursing my son and had thought maybe I was just one of those unlucky women who didn't lose weight until they'd stopped breastfeeding. I have been experiencing hot flashes (or at least that's my best way to describe them) and am frequently irritable for no apparent reason. I always feel bloated and sometimes feel sick to my stomach in a familiar way that reminds me of morning sickness. All these are hideous and make me really unhappy, but to add grave insult to injury since my son was born I have experienced frequent fairly severe acne breakouts. Some of the acne has been so severe it has left scars on my face, something I didn't even experience when dealing with acne as a teenager. I have chalked this all up to all the hormone changes that come after pregnancy and childbirth, but I'm now starting to wonder if some of my issues aren't related to the IUD I had inserted six weeks after my son's birth.

Has anyone else had severe or serious problems with Mirena? Did those issues resolve once you had the IUD removed?

37 years old. Have had it for over 8 years (on my 2nd) - LOVE it - LOVE it! I would rate it as one of the best decisions I have made. Convinced friends and neighbors to get it and they all love it too. I do get hot flashes, but no periods - that is worth it. Spotting 2x a year or so. Although - I agree - who knows what it really do to our bodies??? I think it's worth trying - if you have issues - take it out. Plus, in my case - 100% paid for by insurance.

HATED my Mirena IUD and had it removed after about 10 months. I gained weight, was a crank, could feel it and my skin broke out. Worst was the heaviness of my periods. My doctor didn't believe anything I said but I demanded it leave my body- I am happy and pain free, zit free and back on the pill ( my only regret). Good luck.

My OB/GYN discouraged me from getting the Mirena because she had a number of complaints about moodiness and other hormonal complaints. I got the ParaGard IUD instead. I had heavier periods for a number of months at first (their biggest complaint) but they are getting much better. I think alot of people ask for the Mirena because they have seen it on TV or in print ads. I know I asked for it at first too.

Get it removed!!!! I am 30 and had the Mirena put in about 10 weeks after my 3rd child. I had ALL the symptoms that you are having! I felt horrible ALL the time! I had it removed and was put on the Loestrin pill. I started feelilng better the next day after I had it removed. I have some friends that have it and have no problems but I just couldnt take it anymore. I will never consider the Mirena again.
