I have had no children and I am 39 years old. I have always had spotty periods and recently I started bleeding and passing large clots. I was hospitalized for 6 days and they did nothing as I was out of town at a small hospital. I recently went to my gyno after bleeding for 19 days straight (an I mean like a river) and he has suggested the Mirena. he gave me birth control to stop bleeding but had to take me off because I have a history of blood clots and PE's and immedately the bleeding and cramping and clotting strtaed again. I am worried and not sure if i should have this done because of the horror stories I have been reading. I am scared and do not know wht to do. Does anyone have any advice for me??

What can I do next?

I have the mirena but I got for birth control. I wish I could offer you some advice but I do love it. It seems like you might have another problem though. Maybe try a second opinion. Could be a cyst that needs to be removed.

I love mine too, I'm on my second. A close friend of mine doesn't have children and had hers put in about a year ago due to similar issues and she really likes hers too. She has had no problems and is happy to have virtually non-existent periods!

I have the Mirena and love it. I got it after my son was born. Have had it for 2 years now. My periods were light/spotty in the beginning....now I get nothing or very little and just once in a while. The day I got it I was very crampy, but by the next day- nothing, and I have no side effects. I highly recommend it.

I have Mirena and love it! My periods mostly stopped after a few months. I know some people have had bad experiences, but after four kids mine is a lifesaver
