Loved mine! Getting ready for pregnancy number 2 so I just had mine taken out. Had it put in right after the twins were born 4 years ago and forgot it was even there by the time I even left the doctors office.
Mirena is great!

JUST got the Mirena 4 days ago after researching and talking to friends/family about their experiences. Unlike the other responses so far, I did not get it for birth control. I have problem periods and cyclical symptoms like pelvic pain and headaches. Because the Mirena distributes the low dose of progesterone locally only, it apparently is known to help with these issues. After considering different options and getting an overwhelmingly positive response from my community, I decided to go for it. Nice thing about it is that if it doesn't work out, you just get it removed. If you haven't had children, I understand the process can be a little more painful initially. If you have (I have) then not as bad because the uterus has already been stretched out. I did fine with it, have had very minor cramp-like symptoms and went to Zumba last night without a problem. Other benefits: depending on your insurance, only a $25 copay (example) then NOTHING for 5 years or however long you keep it. Less $$ on tampons, etc because of lighter (or no) periods in most cases. Pros definitely outweighed any of my concerns. Good luck with your decision!

I had the mirena for a year. I liked the fact that I didn't have to worry about birth control. But I was one of the ones that still had a period on it. Before Mirena I would have 7 day pretty heavy ones, after getting it I had 14 + days of period that were really light. I would go every 28 days too, so it was like only have 2 weeks off before getting the next period. It seemed like I was bleeding all the time. I decided, after talking with my doctor about this, to give it the year and see what happened.....it never changed. I decided to take it out. That is a whole different story that I know is probably unique to my situation, but I would share if you wanted, just message me. I personally didn't like it because the 14 day periods weren't really fun. I honestly wouldn't recommend it, but you have to make your own decisions.

After my first daughter I had the mirena and loved it. I had no problems, didn't really cause any side effects. In the beginning I felt pregnant, back pains and stuff but it soon went away. I had it removed to get pregnant with my 2nd, easy to remove no pain or anything. Had it put back in after my second, uncomfortable on the first day then fine. I had light periods for awhile with my first one, with this second one I haven't gotten a period yet, but I'm still breastfeeding. I will have it taken out for my 3rd child (when the time comes:) and then probably another one put in after that, I love it!

Love mine! Slight cramps the day it was inserted then no issue since. I had a period the first month and then nothing since. It is amazing!

Love mine. I'm on my second one. First one I had some mild cramps and spotting the first day. The second one I had slightly more painful cramps and spotting for the first 3 weeks but that was over 6 months ago and I have not had any since.

I gained 30lbs on it and it turned me into a raging beeeyotch. But having almost no periods was nice...I DID eventually have it removed, though.

I did not do well on it, stay far away if you have a tendency toward cysts! I have friends who had no issues, and as soon as i had it removed my symptoms started to get better

I love it. Like the others I had light spotting and cramping the first day. I got mine in Jan. 2010. I don't have a period anymore!!However, and sorry if this it too much info, if you have rough sex you can jar it and that hurts for a little bit, but honestly it's so minor that I never remember I have the darn thing in!

Love it. I got it 6 weeks postpartum, which was more than a year ago. Had spotting for the first 3 months (how much of that was mirena and how much was postpartum hormones I don't know). Didn't affect nursing. Had no problem losing the baby weight. And periods are now light and infrequent. I give it 2 thumbs up.

I have had Mirena for almost 5 yrs. I've not had a period the entire time I've had it which I love. The down side for me was loss of energy and weight gain 50+ lbs. Other than that it's great, don't have to worry about pregnancy ever. I'm still undecided if I'm going to get another in January. We are talking about having another child and if we decide not to right now, I would like to lose weight and me being on Mirena doesn't help.

Other than having excess bleeding, I had no issues with Mirena. (Most months I would bleed for 2-3 weeks out of the month it wasn't a heavy bleed but annoying much the same) I eventually had enough of the bleeding, and had it removed after 3 years.

Oh and a big FYI, I never gained ANY weight on it. In fact while on it, did a body boot camp and lost weight.

I too had heavy periods so got it for birth control and to regulate my period with hopes of stopping it. It has not stopped and it does last longer and occasionally I have a twinge of pain during my period. No weight gain though and I have had it for about 5 months.

I got one a year ago and love it. Haven't gotten pregnant yet! It was very uncomfortable when it was inserted and throughout the first night I had it in, but the next day I didn't notice a thing.

I always forget I ahve it until someone on here asks about it.
