You'll find so many different responses to your post. Apparently, it has worked well for some and others have hated it. I've had it for 2 years and love it. I have no period or even spotting anymore. It's wonderful!

Go out to Health and Medical under Requests and Responses. Click on OB GYN and scan through the Q&A's. You will find tons of questions about Mirena. I had it in for 10 months and hated it.

I had it for 5 years and just had a new one put in a couple months ago. It has been great, plus I haven't had a period since 04!

Loved it til I got Pregnant with my third child while on it! Its a 1 in a 1000 chance but it happened to me. Ask lots of questions because getting pregnant on it was so stressful! I had to have the thing removed which dramatically increased my chance of miscarriage. If you leave it in, it increases your chance of second trimester stillbirth....not fun choices where if I were on the pill anc got pregnant I would have simply quite taking it!

I had one in 2001 and loved it!! Had major cramping (rectal pain like labor) for two weeks. Almost had it taken out, but the pain went away. So when it was time to get a new one last year, I thought I would do it again since I didnt have any major problems. I had MAJOR labor rectal pain evey "time" of the month, breasts were always sore, like I was pregant, had more hair loss than the first one.NO bleeding though since 2001, had my ob/gyn look at it and it was in correctly. I finally couldnt deal w/ the monthly pain. I mean it seroiusly was worse than the birth of my 2nd child. She would give me 800 of advil........NO, needed an epidural for that pain!( I would go to my truck at work and stare at the bricks on the wall, like I was in labor (that focal point),couldnt talk on the phone at work during it.I seriously thought about going to the ER and I did call my old OB to try and get in but she didnt take my insurance, And I have a high pain tolerance. ( have 4 screws in my ankle and didn't cry until I was told I needed to have surgery)Anyhow,Everyones body is different. Mine was great the first time and not the 2nd, so I know it doesnt sound too good from me, but I would still recommend it! If you find it isnt for you, you can have it removed and try something else. I would still have mine if it wasnt for that 1 week a month pain! Good luck!

I loved it! I had it for about 15 mo. after my first son was born, until I had it removed to try for our 2nd (I'm due in Nov.). I never had any problems with it or any side effects. It didn't hurt when inserted (just very mild cramping that lasted about 5 min.), and I didn't even feel it when it was removed. I had very light spotting off/on for about 5 weeks, then no period at all (I was nursing at the time though) until almost 2 months after it was removed. I got pregnant in about 3 1/2 months after it was removed.

A friend of mine had to have the string trimmed after a month or so b/c she could feel it, but other than that she had no problems. I've heard some people say they don't like it, but most people I've talked to love it. It's so nice not to have to think about birth control at all on a day to day basis. You really won't know how you like it unless you try it. Just do your research and talk to your doctor about it.
