Minivan Suggestions

DH got back from taking SD to get her license and said our van is falling apart. It's about 11 yrs old so...but we really do use a van and can't really afford a brand new one.

What van do YOU have? Does it have folding seating? Or do you have/did you have a van you hated?

ETA: Ours is a Dodge Caravan that has been a workhorse for a very long time, but is starting to have transmission problems. We are not entirely displeased because it's old, but it will need to be replaced. DH is concerned that the Honda won't fit our needs. We regularly transport items for camping, including a full sheet of plywood, flat. All these suggestions are welcome!

What can I do next?

I enjoy my Honda Odyssey, I'm on my second one in fact. The seats do fold so I can definitely accomodate a good haul to Costco:) However, my neighbor loves her Kia minivan, she is on Kia #3 since having her first born 16 years ago! I like Honda for their resale value and I literally ran my last one into the ground (before that, I owned a Civic which I loved as well). So, I went with what seems to be a hard working car for my family, the Odyssey:)

Love, love, love our Honda Odyssey! Third row folds easily. They make a reliable vehicle, so I wouldn't hesitate to buy one used.

I like my odyssey. : )
Bought a 2004 in Jan 2011 with 112000 miles for $9000.
It has automatic sliding doors with a remote, which i love. I still have 2 in a car seat. My third jumps in the back.
The back seat folds down.

We have the Kia Sedona...nothing but problems, will be getting rid of it the first possible second we can. Oh, and I'm an insurance agent, get a quote from your agent/insurance company when you get an idea of what you want, it may make a difference if you are trying to decide between a couple different vans. Good luck.

Honda Odyssey here, too. I had a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan and it was great. However, I have heard that lots of people had issues with theirs esp. the transmission. I guess we were lucky. Our Odyssey is a 2011 and I love it.

Toyota Sienna, hands down. Has the most interior room and sliding second row seats, great to prevent the little ones from kicking front seats. Third row seats fold down for lots of back storage. It seems slightly more expensive than some of the others, but the interior room can't be beat. You don't mention what your budget is, but definitely test drive one. It's also built in the US which was a huge selling point for us, considering we only buy "American" cars. It's our first mini-van (in an anti-mini van family.) Even my DH will drive it. Highly recommended. Good luck shopping!

Love, love, LOVE my Toyota Sienna! It's my second -my first was wrecked (not my fault), and I couldn't wait to get another just like it. Mine has automatically folding rear seats. This one is a 2008 we got at CarMax and the other was a 2006 we got at CarMax. Both have been great, trouble-free and fully loaded.

Don't get a KIA Sedona. Don't bother wasting your time or money. I have one that we bought from my inlaws last year when they wanted a new car. It's 6 years old and we've already had to replace so much on it. Now it's saying that the driver's seatbelt needs to be replaced. Who's heard of that? The car has never been in an accident.

Stick with the Honda or Toyota vans. I hear they are wonderful!
