Tmi* I have a horrible period!..I will have it while on vacation and 2/3 days of it I deal with clotting and bleed through everything :( I wasn't due to get it til the end of vacation but it came 4 days early so next month my cycle will be off (vacation)
We will be in Disney with heat, crowds and probably long bathroom lines!!!!! Is there a natural supplement or something I can take to shorten or make my cycle or make it less heavy???? I cannot take BC pills so that is not an option..thanks :/

What can I do next?

You need to talk with your doctor.

I had a hysterectomy - so I don't know about any new things except from what I see on ads and via friends.

I know there is something called a "menstrual cup" - never used it. SO I don't know much about it

You might want to look into that.

Good luck!

I suggest a talk with your Dr. Must especially before you take any unknown supplements for anything, your Dr should be aware of what you are doing.

Thankfully I don't have the issue due to my hysterectomy about 12 years ago. Best thing that ever happened to me!!! Of course it's not for everyone and certainly should not be done without medical necessity.

Best wishes

Wear an extra heavy pad or an overnight pad that is super thick and perhaps add an adult diaper. That way you can protect your clothing from leaks. Change your pad every hour if needed. There's no reason to bleed all over everything if you go prepared. Go change it often....

I bled every single day for nearly a year. Sometimes I'd stand up and make a puddle of blood on the floor. I had a hard menopause. If I had been going to a place like this I guarantee I'd be prepared to not make a mess of myself.

Wear dark clothing, navy or black shorts and a cute top, that way if you do leak it won't be noticeable and you can get away to a bathroom or back to your room and change. I'd probably take a back pack with an extra diaper and several pads and extra shorts.

My doctor recommended taking 400mg of ibuprofen around the clock for 48 hours. It reduces uterine swelling and reduces bleeding. The other thing you could do is wear those overnight diaper sized pads.

oh sweetie i don't know. i don't think you can really take a safe 'natural' supplement to shorten your period. i think your best bet is to be very proactive from the control end of things- a cup, tons of extra pads or tampons, motrin, and be prepared to take it a little easy and rely on your husband on the worst days. sorry the timing is so off. gah!

Years ago, my doctor told me to start taking ibuprofen a few days before my period started to reduce cramping. I don't remember if it helped.

I bled heavily. I sometimes wore 2 tampons and a heavy pad. Later, when I had a diaphragm, I wore that and a heavy pad. I also had panties with a rubberized crotch. Recently I've seen attractive attractive panties that can be worn without a pad or tampon on light days. A combination might help.

I suggest asking the doctor if you could take a hormone to hasten or delay your period.

I urge you to drink water to keep hydrated. The amount of water you drink or do not drink does not affect your period. Motin is an anti-inflammatory so it can reduce pain but i doubt it would decrease flow. Perhaps a pharmacist or doctor would know.

I use a menstrual cup. If your flow is that heavy you will not make it all day without having to empty, however it will allow you to better time when/where you need to empty. It requires practice, so if you dont have a few days before you go to wear it during your period I advise against it for this trip. Oh, and don't get the disposable cups, they do not work the same as the regular ones and in my experience leaked badly.
Try looking at some midwife or natural birth sites and see if they recommend herbs or supplements to help shrink the uterus/stop bleeding after birth, those might work for your situation.

I believe you have received some great advice so far.

If I were in your shoes I would opt for using combinations of the cup, tampons, and heavy flow pads. The lines at Disney bathrooms aren't bad at all. You will probably find shorter bathroom lines at restaurants over the general use bathrooms due to less foot traffic.

Enjoy your vacation any way.

So, question: are you done yet with having kids? Obviously this will not help for this trip but have you considered ablation? I had periods like your - anemic every month bled for 7 full days out of every month. I finally "gave in" and had an ablation and honestly I do not know what the heck I was waiting for!

Anyway, you already got good advice and I wore overnight pads all the time. At Disney I wore a tampon and an overnight pad. Good luck.

I have the same issues and when I know I will not be by a bathroom, I take 4 motrin every 5-6 hours during the day to control heavy times (it does work). I also do not drink water during the day.
