Meal Analysis

I got a strange question. I am trying to eat better and keep track of my daily calorie intake. The problem that I am having is that I actually cook a lot and website that I am using to keep track doesn't have any way to calculate the calories for a meal made from scratch. Does anyone know of a place that I can input a recipe and have it calculate the total calories, fat, carbs, and protein? Thanks!

I use sparkpeople.com all the time and have calculated many recipes all the time. They have a database of foods with nutritional info you can use or if by some chance it's not there or different from what you have you can enter it yourself and have it saved and share it for others. You then can keep that recipe in the database for later use for your tracking. I've lost 37 lbs on this system, mostly by tracking my foods. I love it.

I've used nutritiondata.com before. They seem to have a lot of info and they have a tab called "analyze recipe" which might be what you're looking for. I've never tried it, but I've used the site for other calorie counting. Wish you the best with healthy eating!

Have you tried sparkpeople.com? I know if it doesn't have a food in it's system, you can add it. It may be a little more work initially but then once you add the food it's always here. Good for you for wanting to lead a healthier life!!

Calorieking.com is a great website and you can look up the ingredients and it will tell you how many calories are in each one.

Hi C.,
I'm about a week behind on e-mails, but thought you might like another suggestion.
The Daily Plate ( http://www.thedailyplate.com/ ) is one that my fitness instructor suggested I use. I'm going to start on Tuesday (after holiday BBQ's :)
It doesn't just calculate your intake, but also what you burn.

Get the "Cook yourself thin" cookbook. I lost 11 pounds and my husband lost 25 in just 6 weeks. The portion sizes are very reasonable and most are under 500 calories a meal. You don't feel like you are staving you actually stay full. If you do need a you have enough room for 100 calorie snacks in between. I was eating between 1200-1400 calories a day. We still were able to eat out just don't do it that much.

Spark people does have a recipe builder as part of the program. That will work great and it's free.

Good for you taking this step. I have done so well when I was keeping track, several times. I get so tired of doing it and always slip into old habits when I don't.

I dont know if your interested in spending money on this, but I do weight watchers online, and I have lost 37 lbs! It about $16 a month and I LOVE it! You can look up all the ingredients and calculate the points. I never was a diet person, but this is SO easy and fun I think! Man I should work for them as much as I push it! Good luck!
