Manganese Toxicity

We just found out that my oldest son has a toxic amount of manganese in his body, and we are working to correct it. Have any of you had the same or similar diagnosis for you or your children? If so, what did you do to correct it? How long did it take? How did it go?

We are doing our best with what we know, but it isn't very much. Anything you can tell me would be great. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We know he has it because he was tested. We also know that he has toxic levels and the rest of the family does not. My son's digestive system is not working to properly dispose of the excess amounts of manganese received primarily from food sources (whole, natural foods contain manganese). We are on a restrictive diet to keep excess manganese out of his system to help his damaged digestive system heal itself.

That being said, I am specifically asking for those who have been through it before, and what their experiences were. We are working with professionals, but there is nothing like the experiences of others who have gone before to give us hope.

Do you have well water?

What is the source of his manganese toxicity? Or the cause of it?

I hope you ALL were tested as well?

Is it from drinking water? Would be helpful to know the source. How does it present? like Parkinson's? He will be fine, I'm sure-it can be eradicated from his body-but you have to be mindful of any future exposure-
God bless him-and you, too, Mommy.

How do you know he has a toxicity. How did he get it? Is it caused by exposure to manganese or is it the result of an illness? The answers to all those questions would be part of the determination of type of treatment.

This sounds like something you need a doctor for.

Yes, my daughter and I both went through this ourselves four years ago. My daughter was 8 years old at the time, and I was 40 years old. We both had severe heavy metal toxicity in a number of toxins. I used the detoxing system at drnatura.com to help myself; I think I did it three or four times (it's all natural). My daughter, being younger, used a compounded chelation pill that our Community Pharmacy got for us from another compounding pharmacy in Colorado; they were expensive. She used them 3x; when she started the 4th round, she became allergic/sensitive to the chelation formula, which is very common, it seems.

Since then we've completely changed how we eat: organic, no processed/preservative/chemicals/etc., barely ever any fast food, eat wild game or free-range meat, drink and cook with reverse-osmosis water, discovered what our food allergies/intolerances are, and take a variety of supplements. We also have drastically upped our intake of vegetables.

My daughter and I had a test taken through the Mayo Clinic that showed we have a genetic liver mutation that doesn't allow our bodies to detox or metabolize correctly. Therefore, we have to watch our food and take supplements to do this job for us. Other people at my naturopathic clinic who have discovered they have heavy metal toxicity have also discovered that they have the same liver mutation.

If you want more info/want to talk further, please contact me.

BTW, my parents live in Norwood/Young America! I am a Wisconsin transplant. ;)
