Making My Husband's Poetry into a Book

Hello, moms! I've already started thinking about Christmas and I know exactly what I want to get my husband. He used to write poetry all the time. Now, with a 1 year old and a very full time job, he doesn't have time. He has saved all of his poetry and I would like to make them into a book for him. Does anyone know of any websites where I can just upload his poetry and they will put in into a book for me? I don't want it published. Just one copy. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I think your idea is a wonderful one. I would recomend Fedexone. The people there are great and altho I used to work there, the quality is great--some options are long term storage, putting your work on CD, and choices of paper, covers, etc. And it can all be made in a short amount of time. Also they understand about personal works - as they deal with this on a daily basis.

Great idea!
I am a big fan of Shutterfly. Though they are normally know for their photo books, they have "page" options that are just text. You can pick and choose all your details (cover, pages, text, etc.) easily. If you want, you could include family pictures along with his poetry to make the book even more special. Have fun!

If you have a Creative Memories Consultant, they have a great online program for making a beautiful bound book and you can add pictures and pick your backgrounds for what you are entering for text.

Hi M.:
What a wonderful idea!! That being said I would like to caution you about uploading your hubby's work. I am an author and I know of many writers who have had their work stolen and used as the work of a known person. Your Hubby can self copyright his work by taking it to a Notary and signing and dating every page then putting that work in a safe place and not using it until he may need it in court. You can also place it in an envelop and mail it registered mail, return receipt requested, and mail it back to yourself. When you receive the envelope back, do not open the envelope, keep it and the receipt in a safe place, preferably a fireproof box.
I know this sounds like an aweful lot of trouble to protect his work but you would not want to see your Hubby's work put to music and suddenly become a hit song supposedly written by a known song writer. It happenes all the time.
I do want to say I am not an attorney but this is the advice I was given by an attorney. You can call a copyright attorney and ask his or her advice. While the internet is a wonderful creation it has opened us up to many things that can harm or help us.

I love using shutterfly for our photo books. I realize you are trying to make just a poetry book but, you could put some really neat pictures with it too. I would just pick out a very open/basic/plain template so that it will allow room for the poetry. I made a fun book for my husband on his birthday. I added a lot of quotes, poems, and prayers about Fathers in his book so, there is definitely room but, since you primarily want it for your husband's poetry - look at the different samples of books that they have before you start typing in all the info. The site is very easy to use and to me the prices are very reasonable for the quality of the books.

Ruby had great advice to protect the work, first. About 15 years ago, I used illustory:

I thought it is worth mentioning even though you have had many responses. Although this product is geared toward children, you can make it whatever you want it to be. So far, the book we had made has stood the "test of time." After 15 years, the binding is still tight and the pages have not yellowed one bit.

Two really good sites... better than snapfish (which I did one and the layouts weren't the best- or kodak are Blurb- already mentioned here and Picaboo.com. I love Picaboo. I did my daughter's first year scrapbook with it and loved it. The best thing about it is that you don't have to be online to do it and it saves to your computer. When you are ready to buy the book you just hit a button and it connects to the internet and processes the book. Good luck!
