Magic Eraser.....

When my daughter was around 3 or so I was in the office downstairs when she came in crying. I kept asking her what happened but she was crying so hard I could not understand her. So I finally told her to "show me" what happened. Well she started walking up the stairs and the next thing I knew she was throwing herself down the stairs!!! From that day forward I never asked a child to show me what happened!!

POOR BABY!! Thanks for sharing. For future reference, hair spray, nailpolish remover, or baby oil takes permanent marker off skin ;)

My 'lesson learned' was on MYSELF. I use those Schick Intuition razors to shave everything, and one time a few weeks ago, I had to shave my 'lady', but there was no soap left on the razor. I thought 'no big deal, I'll use my man's shave gel'... DON'T EVERRRRR DO THAT!! OMG OUCH!! I literally had to run cold water on it forever. BAD BAD BAD IDEA!!

Another one... we were at the river, my 7 year old daughter was bored. This was right before school started. She found some huge black walnuts, so I said, not thinking, 'bang them together until they break open'... Did NOT know they STAIN YOUR SKIN!! It's like a temporary tattoo. The first few WEEKS of school I had to keep sending in notes that my daughter was NOT dirty, she's STAINED. D'oh!!

I did NOT know that and I used Magic Eraser to get paint off my hands.

I learned to trust my instinct even if there is no "proof". One M. rubs almost everyone the wrong way. She opened up and told me and another M. how she leaves her kids alone in the car at walmart and at home because she doesn't want to deal with them. I let my child go there for two hours a couple of times, but no more. I also watched from down the street and her kids were not supervised, though when I met her she wanted to make sure I would be sitting outside with the kids at all times like she does
(not).

Thanks for sharing your lesson learned. Magic Eraser is a staple in our house and prior to reading this I may have done the same thing. I am glad your daughter is okay!!

Glad everything worked out and so right we are not perfect but we do our best :)

My also involves a black permanent marker, but it happened while I was in college. I let a friend draw all over me (arms, neck, legs) with the permanent marker... it looked awesome (and no I was not drunk, I was in theatre & arts program we were just creative). Well it was awesome till I wanted it off in two days. So do not let friends draw upon you. Also if you are an artist or in theatre your child might see you drawing on your face or painting murals on the wall and they will do the same. We have many talks about it with my daughter, so we now have time scheduled to paint like mommy or put make up on like mommy BUT it only is done now when we are together.

If this happens again in the future here is what I used to get most of it off... TOOTHPASTE. I believe it is the baking soda in it, and your skin will smell and feel minty fresh :)

Another one to chalk up as a learning experience so you can pass it on to others. (note to self, do not use magic eraser on my skin) :)

Thank you for sharing your "lesson". I am so sorry to hear about your daughter's experience but glad that you are turning it into a learning experience for many Moms. Try not to beat yourself up too much. Sometimes these things happen and we just need to reassure our children that we love them and would never intentionally hurt them. Thank goodness the Doctor was sympathetic and that your daughter will be okay.

Lesson learned for me was that you can get sticky things out of hair, even if it is hopeless. I was so frustrated that I just cut it out of my daughters hair when I should have done a quick internet search, at the very least. Now, two months later, we are still struggling with her hair because *I* cut it instead of taking the time to ensure that I couldn't do anything about it.

I learned that there is a hole in some door knobs that you can stick a paper clip into to pop a lock. My 2 1/2 year old locked herself in her bedroom. I didn't know the hole trick, I do know the slide a credit card to pop a lock trick, and used that. That magic eraser burns my skin too, so I can only use it for a little while. Poor baby and poor momma! It's awful when you do something that causes injury to your kids. I was chasing my daughter one day and accidentally stepped on her pant leg, boom she fell right into a wall! We went from giggles and fun, to tears and worry in two seconds flat.

I learned a very important lesson.

When you slam the front door shut and, for some reason, it doesn't actually shut you really ought to take a closer look because your toddler's finger might actually be smashed in it and THAT'S why the darn door won't shut.

Yep - immense guilt and certainly no mother of the year award for me.

Yep, google it, there have been several cases of children being burned by magic erasers.

Oh, I had thought about posting this warning before. My mom uses the Magic Eraser for everything so she wiped her face with it one time, only to find a painful chemical burn soon after. How is it able to hold a "non-toxic" label? I am so sorry that this happened to your daughter but happy that it was not worse.
When my youngest son was almost 2, he pulled a porcelain night light on his head, requiring stitches. I had it on a tall dresser, with it plugged into an outlet to the side of the dresser. My son went to reach for something and accidently pulled the cord, pulling the light on his head. Immediately after the hospital visit, I moved the dresser to block the outlet and tucked the cord behind so that it was no longer exposed. I learned my lesson!

Sad, but funny. I'm glad it turned out ok, but we all have these moments (whether we admit them or not).

My "lesson learned" was that when your toddler is crying and begging to be picked up on a walk home after a day at the beach, it doesn't automatically mean he's a spoiled brat who doesn't want to walk. It could mean he has sand stuck on his chubby little thighs that's rubbing his precious baby skin RAW!!!! When we got home, I went to take his swimsuit and diaper off, and saw the red, raw, practically bleeding skin.Yeah, I cried.
