I have a macbook laptop, 15 inch, with retina display. I have a hard shell on it right now, but I am going to be traveling and would like a case or sleeve for it to protect it. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I use a laptop case from any retailer/stationery store because I keep the charging cable, the mouse, a pad of paper, and other basic supplies with me - it's like a briefcase but it's padded and has extra pockets for other things. I keep my cell phone cable in there too so all my electronics are together. If you get a sleeve, you still have to put it in something. If you are going to put it in your briefcase, that's another story.

Check out the BookBook by Twelve South. I got one of these when I received my MacBook Air.

Case stays on at all times - just slip the screen through the elastic bands, & when you open the case, you open (& wake up) your laptop. Zip it closed, & it looks like a book on your coffee table.

(to be honest, I didn't think it looked like a real book, maybe because I knew what it really was, but I've surprised about a dozen people by opening my "book" & using my laptop, so I guess it works)

The case is reinforced to protect your laptop from contact damage, and has a relatively low profile. They aren't the cheapest cases (I think mine was $80) but they wear incredibly well, and I think are worth the money. You can buy them directly in the Apple store.

My laptop goes in its sleeve which goes in its case. Sometimes I just put the laptop in the sleeve in my purse.... Yes, big purse. I love having my sleeve and I think it only cost me five bucks, because it gives me some flexibility. I love having my case, which was quite a bit more expensive because it keeps all my stuff together.

I paid quite a bit for the case because it is "theft proof" Obviously anything can be stolen but this has cables running through the material of the case and the strap making it impossible to come up behind me at an airport and cut the strap or bag and just grab the laptop and run. It also has an integrated locking system that locks the strap to the bag and has cables that go through the zippers. Quite a secure little case. I guess the thieves have to wait till I go to the bathroom on the plane if they really want my laptop. :)

My daughter ordered a personalized cover from Etsy.com and she loves it.

She puts the MacBook in the sleeve and then in her backpack if she needs to take it to school. Never had an issues.
