Looking to Get a Tubal Done, Wondering About Side Effects

I had a tubal when I had my last child 5 years ago, when I had to have her by c-section. I have had no side effects whatsoever. I really like knowing that I am covered and not have to go back to the doctor or get perscriptions filled. I would reccomend it to anyone woman.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I had a tubal 3 years after my last child was born. He is now 16 years old. I was a little dizzy and needed to be helped into bed afterwards (outpatient procedure), but everything has been fine for me. I haven't had any medical issues, side effects or anything. My period lasts 5 days, with the first two days being very heavy; the last three days are very very light. I used to have mild cramps before my period, but now I only have a little tenderness in my breasts a week or so before which tells me it's that time of the month. It's great not to have to worry about birth control. Good luck with your decision!

I had my tubes tied during my C-section this past December after my 2nd pregnancy. I just had my 6 week post-partum checkup and my OB said that for the next few periods, they might be heavier but after that, my periods should level out. He didn't mention any other side effects.

Since my periods have not yet returned, I can't share any ill effects I've had, but I am interested in other responses to this question as well.

I had my tubal 4 1/2 years ago after a c-section w/twins. Compared to being on the pill, yes, it is a heavier flow for about 1-2 days but my overall length is about 5 days compared to three with the pill. I do have the cramping on the first day that I never had with the pill but tylenol knocks it right out for me. I'm glad I did it...the only thing I miss about the pill is I never had a period of the weekends which is when a lot of the fun activities in my life happen.

I was also considering a tubal after our second (born May 2009). I also posted on here to get feedback from other Moms, and I got a lot of women who said that after several years, they were experiencing heavier bleeding and cramps. I did some research on the Web and found that many women experience side effects long after the procedure. My OB confirmed this. We opted to have my husband get a vasectomy, which has few, if any, side effects and a much shorter recovery time (2 days max). Then I had an ablation done because my periods got very heavy after #2 and it was really interfering with life during my cycle. We had to do both because the ablation is not birth control--you can still get pregnant if you have no lining in your uterus, it's just not a good thing at all and the pregnancy must be terminated.

Since my ablation, I have not had any bleeding or cramping and it has been GREAT!

I had a tubal about 6 weeks after my second son was born and had no side effects at all. I felt great afterward and was back to work the following Monday. I was a little sore but healed quickly. The only thing is that since I've had the tubal I now get my period every 3 weeks instead of 4. They still last around 5 days but are not any heavier or lighter. The cramps didn't get any worse for me either. My husband was too chicken to get a vasectomy too so I did it. Men are such babies! Hope this helps and best of luck to you!

I had a tubal after our last child. 15 months ago. I did not have any problems. My periods were heavier for awhile, but I normally do that after giving births. Camps have not been an issue. I was sore for about a week from the procedure, but after that not a problem. Good luck in your decision.

I had a tubal about 6 weeks after my 4th child born and she is about to turn 14 years old. I have had NO complications or side effects. My husband also had a vasectomy before she was born and has had no complications from that either. It might be easier for your husband to have something done, but it's up to him. Some men would rather not, thinking it effects their "manhood", which it doesn't that I know of. Good luck in whatever you chose to do.

I had a tubal almost 4 years ago after the birth of my second child. I don't have any problems with cramps, but my periods are heavier and longer. Actually, only really heavy for about a day, but the entire period can last 9-11 days which can be inconvenient. I'd still do it again, though, if I had it to do all over again. Not having to worry about birth control is worth it! Good luck!

I got my tubes tied back in 05 after my 2nd.... I was 28 at the time... I have not had any side effects of it... yes my period is heavier and I do have worse cramps, but nothing different then before I went on birth control.... I was told the same thing and what I think happens is that we just forgot what our periods were like pre birth control. At least for me, I know the pill helped with cramps and flow, and even regularity. The procedure is so simple now... I don't have any scars from it.... the only thing I would suggest is research the different types of tubals.... I have known a couple women who just had them clipped and the clips fell off. They say that cautarizing (sp) can have more complications during, and that they tubes can fuse back together after time. So do some research do what is best for you. I opted for the cautarization, I was done, and knew I wouldn't be changing my mind. So far so good after 5 years and I wouldn't do anything differently. Hope this helps.

Oh and my mom had a tubal a few years after she had me, she was 22, she's now in her 50's.... she has had no complications or extra heavy periods, or cramps... so those who say the complications happen a while after.... here's one story of no complications after .... 30+ years.

Have you and your husband thought about him getting a surgerical procedure done? Lots and lots of couples are turning toward the male having the procedure done on them. It only takes a few mins at the doctors office. You can also try a procedure called ThermaChoice. Goodluck.

you should REALLY surf the internet about the risks of tubaligations. There are SO many side effects, it would really look in to it. I was going to have it done until I did my OWN study on it. Not good.
