Hi ladies,

I'm in the market for a steam mop for a linoleum floor that is in horrible shape (we're in military housing and this floor has definitely seen better days!). I've been checking out the Shark online and one made by Bissell. Both cost $80-$90, and both have a lot of positive and negative reviews. Do any of you have either of these, or maybe another steam mop for under $100 that you would recommend? I don't want anything that uses chemicals because I have a toddler and 2 old dogs. I'm willing to order one online if I can't find it locally or if it is cheaper online. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I normally soak my floor in straight bleach or bleach soft scrub (rub lightly!)and then with a rag and water. Wear gloves and mask since this is a tedious project. I only do this once a month (AND AT NIGHT!!!)I have 4 young kids, and it works.
If your floor is beyond bleach repair, then I would go with Terri's advice...go buy some nice refreshing ones either at Big lots....or if you're lucky-try Dollar Tree-yes, they carry them from time to time and they are not bad. Sorry I cannot give you futher info as far as the steam cleaners.

Just another avenue that you might consider...I have the Hoover powerscrub that washes AND dries at the same time. You do use hot water but it is not a true "steam" cleaner. I really enjoy it because it does dry the floor as you wash and with kids, hubby, dogs and cats, it is well worth it to not have to wait until everyone is asleep and trying to lock up the animals to keep them from tracking across my wet floors. It usually takes about 20 minutes or so and my kitchen floors are clean and dry!! It also works on my hardwood floors as well. Hope this helps. I think I got it at Wal-Mart...it has been a while so I don't really remember what I paid for it, but I don't think it was a lot.

I have the Shark and use it every week. It's great! I do it while my kids are around too, they floors don't stay that wet for long since it's steam. i don't know what i'd do without it! I do spot clean (under my daughter's high chair) and do one big deep clean (once/twice a month) with special wood cleaner.

My husband is a store manager for Home Depot.
He brought home a steam mop about a month ago that the Depot had marked down to around $50. Worth every penny! It does a beautiful job on our floors and uses no chemicals or soaps...water only.
He said all the Depots should carry them. Sorry I can't remember the name. It is not right here in front of me. And this was not any Home Depot discount (employees do not get one) This was the actual price.
Hope this helps!

Just saw one on QVC yesterday- so to qvc.com to find it. I have the shark steamer with floor attachment and that works pretty well.

I just bought the Steamfast mop. It's great. My cleaning ladies recommended it after using it at several other houses. It's not going to do your grill, like it says it can, but it will do a wonderful job on your floors. It's around $70. It was the best in the Good Housekeeping tests and it can be had on Amazon and if you do a Google Search for Steamfast, you'll find the company that makes it.

Only uses water.
