Looking for Ways to Boost Daughter's Immune System

Hi All,
I am looking for ways to boost my 3 year old daughter's immune system. She has caught a few colds this summer (hasn't been sick in summer's past....fall and early winter are our usual sick times). She did have strep throat earlier this year (spring time) and took antibiotics for the first time. I am wondering if the strep/antibiotics somehow weakened her immune system. I know that kids get sick......but if I can strengthen her little body's immune system somehow I would like to. I am open to suggestions!
Thanks everyone!
T.

Hi T.! My son was born premature and has a compromised immune system and gets every bug and critter that comes his way! I went to a GNC and put him on this mega immune formula for kids and it really seemed to help. It comes in a small dark bottle and it is liquid and you just give an eye dropper full a day. I also started really watching the amount of sugar intake (both natural and refined) because I know that they play a factor in reducing the bodies natural immunities. If you are up to it too try a whole foods/ natural foods approach for a while and see if that works for you. My husband and I have been vegans now for almost a year and that has really seemed to jolt my sons immune system into full swing! So now when he goes out with Grandma and she spoils him with fast food and red dye 40 on a stick he doesn't come home sick! Another thing you can try is an immune boosting tea. I did this with my son when he was about 4. I would make the tea (which is mostly a mixture of mint leaves and raspberry leaves) and put it into a sippy cup with a little honey and tell him it was his special drink. He drank it up and actually loved the taste.

I hope this helps!

I'd cut out all artificial and unneccessary sugars and preservatives for a while, up her probiotics, and also give her lots of Vitamin C, Echinacea, Zinc, in addition to a regular multivitamin, or smoothie.

Try to keep her on just whole foods, and only good clean water to drink, just until you see improvement. Sort of like a detox. :)

Our naturopath "prescribed" rubbing castor oil into my son's tummy at bedtime, in a clockwise movement. It's in the first aid section of the pharmacy, or you might have to ask at the pharmacy counter. And, she "prescribed" probiotics, specifically Progena Prodophilus - it's for professional use, but I'm sure you could find it online, and it must be refrigerated. There are tons of probiotics in the health food section, but they may or may not have "live active cultures" by the time they expire. She studied this and did lots of research, which is why she likes this particular one, but over-the-counter stuff sure wouldn't hurt either. She says 70% of our immunity comes from the gut.

I know this is going to sound off the wall...but do you take her out into the public or let her play in the dirt outside? As weird as it may sound you need all of those germs - I'm guilty of it trying to keep my son clean at all times....but those germs builds up her immune system. Strep is a doosy. That really knocks you down pretty good. I also agree with the person who suggested getting rid of the artificial foods and get real nutrictional foods in her.....like fresh fruits and veggies - getting the natural vitamins in her. Go back to basics. And of course vitamin C. I don't know if she can have Ecchinatia. But if you are not sick right now - start taking it and then it will build the immune system to help fight off the unwanted buggy germs. Good luck - we always want our children not to get sick - but sometimes we loose those battles.

Take her to the chiropractor! I've taken my kids since they were born, and they *never* get sick! It's really gentle, so no worries about that.
