Looking for Reasonable Priced Massage

Hi! I live in Columbia Heights and am looking for someplace nearby (Roseville, Fridley, Blaine, New Brighton, etc.) to get a massage at a reasonable price. I know they're not cheap, but I'm thinking someone here can give me some suggestions/ideas on where to find one cheaper than $70. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I did a search for Regency Beauty and found a list of services on their site and it doesn't look like they do massages, but I think I found the place I'll be going for pedicures! :) In response to the one message about the cost. I know how hard a massage therapist works. I used to get them fairly regularly. I just thought the $70+ was a little much. And I was thinking if I could find some place that wasn't part of a "chain" and could support a local business instead, I would rather do that. Or help support a student learning the trade. Thanks again everyone. This is a great site.

Hello! I've gotten a few massages at Centerpoint Massage and Shiatsu School in Dinkytown in SE MPLS. It's nice because you can get a massage by a student or an instructor and both are reasonably priced. I highly recommend it to anybody. The website is centerpointmn.com

Good Luck!!

Massage Envy has one hour massages for $39! I bought one for my stepmom for her birthday and was really shocked at how cheap they are. They have locations in Blaine and Coon Rapids so it wouldn't be too far.

M.,

You could try the Aveda Institute on Hennepin in NE Minneapolis. The students are great, the price is cheap, and the experience is kind of fun too (the building is neat, there is a fun atmosphere to the place). Here are the prices (from their website).

Good luck!

Massage and Body Treatment
Elemental NatureSM Massage 1 hour $44

A Swedish full-body massage
Deep Tissue Full Body 1 hour, 20 minutes $54

Swedish Full Body and Scalp 1 hour, 20 minutes $54

I'm pretty sure the Aveda Institute does all sorts of massages for way less than $70. Granted it's because it's a teaching school, but I've always had good experiences there. Check it out at www.aveda.com or call them at ###-###-####. Enjoy!

Massage Envy is a great place, and really reasonable. They have a location in Vadnais Heights, off of Country road E. Just take 694 to 35E and take the county E exit. Turn left and it is in the same shopping center as the Golds Gym and Fesitval Foods, on the west side of it. I got a friend 2 massages for $100. REALLY a good price for an hour long massage. Also, try Globe University, they have a location in Blaine, right off of 35W, and they do Massage there. Just keep in mind, any school, or place like that is in a learning atmospher, so yes, it may be less expensive, but they ARE students, and still learning what to do.

A masseuse's (spelling?) price is like gas prices - always about the same and always expensive.

The best way that I have found affordable massages is to go to students at massage schools. (This of course, was a self-indulgence before I had kids - and only a dream now....) There are schools that are stricly massage, and I would suggest those over beauty schools. I'm familiar with Columbia Heights but have no idea where any schools are near by. Back in my days of doing this I lived in Eden Praire.

Of course the down side is that there are no guarantees of good service - and in the good ol' days for me I got both. Most often however, I did get a good massage and was happy.

Thats about the best I can recommend. Good Luck!

You could try Regency beauty accadamy. They just moved their facility from northtown to just past 109th in Blaine.

They have reasonably priced spa treatments. You'd have to call to see if they do full massages or not, though.

The going rate is $60.00 an hour at most places because it is usually a dollar a minute. I think $70 is a bit pricey, but they may offer extras there? I go to Bodywise Theraputic Massage in Robbinsdale. I have always recieved great massages and they are good at teaching you strtching techniques to keep you limber and have less soreness between visits. You have to figure in a tip too though so I do end up spending $75 when I go for an hour massage, but well worth it everytime!

Consider that for $70/hour your massage therapist is busting her butt! Massage Therapy is hard professional work. Your attorney charges $300/hour. Your accountant charges $125. Chiropractors charge $190.

Anyone charging a "reasonable" price is taking a hit and living a difficult life OR is exploiting new graduates who need experience in exchange for lousy pay for hard work.

I strongly encourage you to welcome the professional rate of the local, hard-working massage therapist. Therapy is not cheap - psychotherapy runs about $130/hour for a little bit of conversation. Someone who is breaking their thumbs on your back deserves to be paid well.
