Looking for Nanny/daycare

I am going to be a mom for the first time in September, I have 6 weeks maternity leave, then I am looking for childcare options. My husband and I have demanding hours, generally 6:30am - 7pm at the worst. It seems the best option so far is to do daycare for half the day, and then have someone pick up the baby in the afternoon sometime... maybe a student? Any suggestions or additional options. I am not from here and don't know how to go about hiring someone.

What can I do next?

Hi K.. You may want to check with the universities. I know UK has an office...I can't think of the name of it....but they find work for students. Of course you can interview etc... but at least these would be pre screened. Also you could check witht the sororities and religious organizations. I am just starting this search too. I think I am going to call some churches for babysitter lists to start.

K. -

I'm not the expert on childcare in Lexington (I'm at home with twins in Richmond!) but I know that Baby Moon is holding a class called "Making the Childcare Decision" on May 2nd in Lexington. Might be something you and your husband would want to go to, to get ideas and referrals, as well as meet other parents in your position. Check out this class on the Baby Moon website at: www.baby-moon.org.

Good luck,

I called Bluegrass Nannies and The Sitter Solution recently when I was looking for part time care for my son. Bluegrass Nannies was too expensive for me, but the sitter solution seemed more reasonable. They head hunt for a sitter/nanny for you and you can select your price, schedule and you get to interview and pick your sitter/nanny.

Good luck!

Hi K.,
Right now I am a stay at home mom but will need to go back to work in the fall. I am a certified teacher and would really rather babysit for a family in my home. I have a 7 month old. How much would you be able to pay if I kept your baby full time?

I have 2 children who are in day care full time right now. I have used the sitter solution for occassional nights out. we loved the sitter they sent over. You can call UK STEPS program, that is the office where they find employment for students. I also found in the Kids Directory a service called Nanny In A Pinch. They do occassional sittings and full time care.
Good luck in your search. I know it is a hard decision to make!
