There is a website www.theknot.com that can really help you out. You need to go on and register and then a whole new world of vendors opens up to you. They have places for ceremonies and receptions as well as caterers. You can also try some of the recreation centers. For example, Carrollton Senior Center charges anywhere from $50.00 per hour to $300.00 for the night (as long as you are out by midnight) I think the only problem is that I am not sure if they will let you serve wine or not. I'll find a few morewebsites for you and post them either today or tomorrow.

I had my post-wedding reception (we got married in Jamaica and then had a reception later at home) at a very nice art gallery/museum in Dallas. I think that it meets your criteria: there is ample space for dancing, it is reasonably priced (I think we paid $500 for the evening), you can bring in your own food and drinks and the space has a very interesting ethnic feel to it. The art is very brightly colored which makes for beautiful photos of the event and gives people something interesting to see and talk about. Our guests really enjoyed it. I just recently got married and most rental facilities want you to have a licensed caterer. This is a liability concern for the safety of the facility and the guests.

If you are looking to cater yourself AND you want to have alcohol, you are more than likely going to have to do an outdoor picnic type reception. There are several beautiful parks in the metroplex and surrounding areas.

If you are not wanting to do an outdoor thing, I would suggest you rent a suite at a hotel. The Omni in Las Colinas has suites that have connected wet bars called parlor suites. I'm not sure how many you are expecting to attend or if you are trying to have a sit down dinner or buffet style.

Addison Conference Center lets you bring in your own food and alcohol. There is a rent but I am not sure of how much it is. They also have a dance floor.

I don't know if it would be inexpensive, but try 'Reflections on Spring Creek' in Plano off of 75 & Spring Creek (down the street from SAM's). I know the owners Penny & Mike Story and they are very respectful of 'non-traditional parties' even though they are very strong Christians themselves. The facility is brand new and just beautiful. Let them know that 'P. J' who lives in their neighborhood referred you.

What area are you wanting this event to take place?

Try the Rowlett Community Center. I don't know how much it costs, but I recently attended a modest wedding reception there and it was very nice. It is worth looking into.

My husband and I had our wedding at a place called the Hedrick House- it was a really small wedding so this place would be perfect for just a party. You can bring your own food or have someone cater for you and you can have alcohol too; this was 2 years ago so I dont think anything has changed but you can check it out on the city of Lewisville's website. It was the cheapest option for us and they let us pay it out.
