Looking for Good Weekend Breakfast Spots

My spouse and I woke up this morning and wanted to go for breakfast somewhere that's family friendly (we have 2 preschoolers and an infant) but a little above the denny's and silver diner scale. A nice relaxing spot with good food and family friendly of course. We couldn't think of any that weren't open before noon. We are in Springfield area, would consider Shirlington, Old Town Alex and Burke but any ideas would be great for future mornings when we are up early and raring to go. Thanks.

You might try Spartan's on Burke Road, across from the Burke Post Office. It's definitely "family friendly" and open early for breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays. I THINK they open at 7 a.m. both days.

There are many good places in Shirlington for breakfast and most open by 10am or before. Luna Grill, Busboys & Poets, Carlyle(more upscale), Bear Rock Cafe (not full service, but good food and very child friendly), and I believe that both Guapos and Extra Virgin are doing brunch every weekend now. All of the restaurants also have outdoor seating. Plus, Shirlington is a really nice place to walk around and relax.

Enjoy!

First Watch in Fairfax serves great, fresh, healthy and affordable breakfasts and lunch only. The kids menu is extensive. My kids love the fruit crepes with yogurt and granola. It's in a shopping strip on Main St. across from Trader Joes and Total Wine off Pickett St. http://www.firstwatch.com/menu.htm

we love going to brunch. some of the spots that we like.

artie's part of the great american restaurant chain so there are other choices, such as the carlyle in shirlington. we love the call ahead feature.

uncle julio's rio grande cafe - there is one in arlington - they also have call ahead feature, but brunch is not too crowded.

cafe deluxe - tysons

majestic cafe - old town

sequoia - georgetown for the view

four and twenty blackbirds - now this is a drive out in wine country (flint hill, va), but a very nice brunch spot

When I lived in Springfield, we loved going to Springfield Restaurant And Pizzaria.
6416 Brandon Ave. (@ Old Keene Mill)
Springfield, VA 22150
It's family friendly, in fact we held a lunch there after my daughter's baptism. we used to go often on the weekends. It's filled with neighborhood locals. enjoy!

We love Cafe Luna in Shirlington- it is busy so at times there is a 15-20 minute wait, but because it is so busy it makes it a good place for loud kids. Classier than Denny's or Silver Diner.
