Our daughter has suffered from seizures since the early age of 6 months. To date she has had 10 that we are aware of. We have been to 2 Pediatric Neurologists and several pediatricians. We have had several tests run on her and all of them come back normal. We have yet to receive any answers as to what in the world is going on with our daughter. If you can Highly Recommend a Pediatric Neurologist in AZ we would greatly appreciate it. Or if you have any other suggestions please!! Let us know. Thanks for your help.

Hi K., I do not know of any neurologists, but have a question for you. Do her episodes occur after using certain cleaning products? The reason why I ask, is that I have heard of several situations where the toxins in normal everyday cleaning products have caused severe reactions in young children. I just recently hooked up with a company that sells all natural based products to help rid your house of toxins if you'd like to learn more. T.

There is a wonderful group of Pediatric Neurologists in Tucson AZ.
They are at the Center for Neurosciences, any of the 4 Pediatric Neurologists there are highly recommended. Some people are just prone to sz's, and not all of them have a cause. A normal EEG (one of the tests run on patients with sz's) could mean a number of things. It may mean that none of her episodes were caught during the study for example. There are longer studies that could be done; ambulatory or video EEG's are other options. No doctor may have the answer you are looking for, but treating the sz's is the most important thing, and then ruling out any brain abnormalities. If all is well, just keep her on her medications and if she goes a couple of years without any sz's, speak with your doctor about trying to wean her off of the meds. The only way to stop seizures is with the medication and it is important for the meds to be taken regularly, a single missed dose can cause a seizure, which can cause injuries. Hope this is helpful! And if you've seen the doctors at CNS, then you've seen the best =)

Hi, K.. My daughter has Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy, the type that she will never grow out of. So I feel your concern and pain. We have had much success with Dr. Jay Cook at the Banner Childrens at Banner Desert Medical Center. Her original Neurologist retired and referred us to him. At first, I was hesitant, but he has won me over with his expertise and care. When I first met him, I was taken aback by his old curmudgenly country doctor look. But when he started to talk to my daughter he was very personalbe and funny and made her laugh. Beware the elephant jokes though! LOL Here is the link to his profile on the Banner Hospital network: https://weblink.bannerhealth.com/weblink/phyPro.do?poid=B...=

Good luck and God bless. I know it is often a tough road to diagnosis. Hugs!

K.,
I know this sounds crazy, but, how is her sleep patterns? Does your daughter get good sleep? I remember reading about seizures and lack of sleep in small children. Especially if her tests keep coming back normal. Now....it's just a thought. I swear by this book, Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child. Something to consider (if you think her sleep patterns are off).

My son is 6months old and was recently diagnoised with epilepsy our pediatric Neurologist is Dr. Alarcio from Phoenix Childrens. We see her at the east valley pch urgent care. She is an A+ person. I really like her. During each visit she always makes it a priority that I understand everthing about my son's care. She doesn't hesitate to jump online to help me find websites concerning my son's medication or anything else we are talking about. She has even went out of her way to track down other specialists that my son is seeing to make sure we are all on the same page or that they have seen a lab result. Good luck.

Hi K.,

If you email me privately (____@____.com), I will work on getting some names for you. I have a few friends with children who have gone through this, one being an expert on the subject.

There are many things environmentally and diet wise you will need to do with your child that mainstream doctors many not be educated about. One thing is that you should strongly consider NOT getting anymore vaccines, which carry neurotoxins and could further aggravate her situation. I know my friends doc is very up to speed on this and I would love to connect you.

Best wishes to you and baby! :)

Have you tried, Melanie A. Burgos-Alarcio, MD? She is at 5131 Southern Avenue, Mesa, AZ 85206 at the Phoenix Children's Medical Group. ###-###-####. I took my son in for migrain headaches and she was very good with my son and explaining things to me. She took me seriously and I felt she was thorough - ordered an MRI and did a blood test.

Hi K. - i just got back on line and saw your posting. I am sure you have probably found some good doctors. But, if you are still looking i wanted to pass along a name to you. My daughter had seizures from 11 mos -2 years (she had a brain tumor - which was removed). We saw several peds neurologists before we found one that was perfect for us - Dr Kerrigan with Child Neurology at St. Joe's. We also saw Dr. Kara Lewis while at the hospital and she is amazing too. ###-###-####.

I know how scary this process is and would love to be of any assistance i can. Just remember, you know your child better than anyone and don't stop until you find the right doctors with answers for you.

Best of luck,
T.

K.,
Dr. Lewis at St. Joe's is highly recommended by several of the families I work with. I am a pediatric physical therapist and could get more information on other neurologists if you need.

My son suffered a head injury at 3 1/2 months old and we saw Dr. Elton (not sure of his first name), but I may be able to find it somewhere. His office is at Desert Banner Hospital in Mesa. He is AWESOME (caring, kind, percise and thorough)!!! I highly reccommend him! My pediatrician, Dr. Piacentine (who is also AMAZING) referred us to him. You could call their office and ask for Dr. Elton's number ###-###-####. Good luck!!!
