Looking for a Great Children's Music Cd

I used to listen to Raffi when I was a kid, but other than that I haven't found a great collection of kids songs on CD. I would like to find one that has all of the traditional songs like "I've Been Working on the Railroad", "The Farmer in the Dell", "Wheels on the Bus", "Mr. Sun", "Mary had a Little Lamb", "BINGO", "Do Your Ears Hang Low?" etc. I just want normal, unaltered versions [this is the biggest issue in my search so far]. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I know you asked for traditional music, and you have gotten tons of great suggestions so have nothing to add to that, but if you are ever looking for other music look into the group THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS kids music (they originally started as an adult group but once the bad starting have kids they started making kids music). The have 3 CDs out: Here Comes the ABC's, Here Comes the 123's and Here Comes Science. These are fun and educational Cd's that are very enjoyable for everyone to listen to. Thought I would share just in case you or anyone else wanted to add some fun educational CDs to there CD library.

Target has several CD's just like that in their kids CD section. You are right, the classics are fun.

We have two Disney CDs, 1 and 2 (labeled as such), that have exactly those songs. I don't know why they are "Disney", other than that they are marketed by Disney and that there is a picture of a Disney character on the CD cover. My kids know TONS of songs due to those CDs--even their daycare provider was impressed! I think we just found them at WalMart. They are really good versions of the songs--good for little kids, but not too sing-songy or annoying (assuming you can deal with kids' music in general, of course!).

Hi K.,
I haven't seen anyone mention the Cedarmont Kids collection yet. Their website is http://www.cedarmontkids.com but I believe you can find them at Marshalls and maybe even Target. They have a variety of albums on both CD and DVD (my three year old daughter has been watching the DVDs for a year now and still isn't tired of them!). They have Christian/religious songs as well as the traditional children's songs (many of which you mentioned above). They are definitely a favorite at our house. If you want just traditional songs I would recommend the Silly Songs and Toddler Tunes albums. Enjoy!

We have a bunch of the Little People's CDs. My kids reconize the kids on the front and singing from their toys and videos. All the traditional songs on those. I have found them at Walmart and BabiesRus but I am sure you can find them lots of places.

I found a CD at Target (in the book/CD area) with all of the songs you mentioned. I think it was just called "Kids Songs". And BONUS, it is done really well - not annoying for mom & dad.

Hello! I'm a music teacher so I'm sort of picky when it comes to this. :-) The best I've found for "traditional" songs are actually Fisher Price Little People CDs - I found several varieties at Kohl's and picked the one with the most songs that I wanted on it. The voices aren't too annoying, they include more than one verse of most songs and they're simple enough arrangements that my 2-year-old son can pick up on them and sing along.

If you want awesome music to just dance around to, I would suggest the group Go Fish. They're a Christian group, but they have dedicated themselves to producing fun kids music that just makes you smile and bounce and is actually decent for the parents to listen to also! My favorite CDs from them are Snazzy and Party Like a Preschooler.

Hope this helps!

Dear K.,
We own two children's songs CDs. One is called "Kids' Favorite Songs" by Sesame Street but it is slightly altered ( With Sesame Street characters singing the tunes) although it is excellent! The second CD is called "Children's Favorite Songs" by Walt Disney - Volume 1 -25 classic tunes. There is a picture of Mickey Mouse on the cover. These are not altered in any way and very straight forward. I recommend both of these CDs highly.

Have fun!

I have a cd that sounds like what you are looking for, kids are sleeping at the moment but I will check and get back to you.
I would also suggest going to the library. I go online and reserve the ones I want. I listen to the CD pick the songs I like then burn them onto a CD. I have found that most of the CD's have a only a few good songs, this way we only have the songs we like. Try Barney he does a lot of classic children's songs too.

We love Beethovan's Wig. There are four different CDs now. It is classical music with great lyrics.

From Barnes and Noble:
Richard Perlmutter's wacky bunch once again provide silly songs for famous classical melodies in a package that both entertains and informs. This time out, favorites from Verdi, Brahms, Schubert, and Strauss get twisted readings that will have kids - and their parents - in stitches. "Sing Verdi Very Loud" calls for vociferous vocals, to the tune of "La donna è mobile" (from Rigoletto): "Do what the divas do / Shatter a glass or two / Your voice is well-endowed / Sing Verdi very loud. The reason Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King" is retitled "It's the Same Every Verse" is quite obvious, and the lyrics count down the 18 verses one by one: "Here's a piece that's quite perverse / It's the same every verse / So for better or for worse / We've 17 to go." The most amusing song on the whole disc has to be "Please Do Not Tease the Viennese." Set to Strauss' "Blue Danube Waltz," this hilarious track begs forgiveness for Vienna's penchant for the waltz and for melodies "conducted in threes." While plenty funny, the Beethoven's Wig crew never lose sight of the music -- including an instrumental performance of each piece without lyrics.

K.,

Try "Wee Sing". We have a number of their CD's and they are pretty easy to listen too, just regular songs sung normal (not jazzed up or pop-music like). Some of them have kids singing, others are adults. I like them.

We love the Fisher Price "Little People" CD's. They have a variety; they are sung "cutesy" and have some extra lyrics though. Walmart carries them and they have the display where you listen before you buy. My daughter is 5 and a half and still likes them!
