I am looking for a good, honest, and affordable mechanic in or around the Elmhurst area. I have a Honda Accord and I know it is due for schedule maintenance. I really would like to avoid the car dealership, but I don’t know any place to take my car. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Do not go to Bartel's Auto in Carol Stream on Gary. I went there for years because I'm single and they're close and will drop you off/pick you up. Recently I needed my rear coil springs replaced and a front - oh what do you call it - it's where the tire attaches to the metal - anyway, they wanted $900 for it. I went to Sears at Stratford Square Mall and they did it for $500. Unfortunately Sears isn't full service, so my power steering line recently broke and I have to take it somewhere else - I'm going to Goodyear on Army Trail Road - hope they won't rook me - they came recommended.

The best place you could ever go is A+ North Ave. on North Ave. in Villa Park. The number is ###-###-####. It doesn't look like much from the outside (actually it looks kinda yucky- it's also a scrap place) but they are the best there is. They are cheap and honest. We've been taking cars there forever. In fact, I had a car that we took to a neighborhood place because we couldn't drive it to North Ave (we live in Schaumburg) and they told us all this stuff was wrong with the car and it would be $900 to fix it. So we called North Ave and they came and towed it for us and they fixed us and charged us about $400 to fix it and said almost half the stuff that the other place said was wrong was fine. Another time they had to tow my car from Schaumburg (I blew a tire and didn't have a spare) and they put a new tire on, replaced the blower for my heater, towed the car to Villa Park and charged us $120 for everything. Plus they are quick. We almost always get our car back the same day. The owner's name is Chris and the manager's name is Scott. They are just great. If you want PM me and I'll give you my boyfriend's name and you can tell them that he referred you.
Good luck!

Just backing Olga on her opinion about the place in Elmhurst if it's the same place (pretty sure it is as I looked it up). Do not go there. We went there a couple of years ago and they are extremely expensive and their estimate way out left field. I will try some of your suggestions around here.

Whatever you do, do not go to Elmhurst Clinic. I have heard horrible things from a couple of women that have taken their cars there. I would recommend High Tech in addison. Ask for John. He has worked on my Highlander and Honda. Can't find a more honest shop than them!

Hi J.,
My husband takes his car to Elmhurst Auto Care. They are located at 207 E North Ave in Villa Park. The phone number is ###-###-####. My cousin, that owns his own repair shop, recommended them to us. This is a different shop than the other replies that suggested to not go to Elmhurst Clinic.
Good luck and hope this helps!

CNK Auto Repair in Elk Grove Village is a great honest shop. I am related to them and they have truly done a great job for everyone I know.

Well, if you don't mind traveling the best place I have found is the Citgo in Naperville. They are honest, cheap and fast. I got my oil changed for $28! They have done some heavier work on several cars and I am always suprised at how cheap they are. Friendly too. =)
