My brother is in a wheelchair and he is cold all the time. Does anyone know where I can find a battery operated blanket so when he is outside he will be warm no matter where he is. I looked everywhere and all I can find is electic blankets or the ones you plug in your ciggertte lighter. Maybe even a small rechargeable generater that he could plug a blanket in. Thanks to all. Hi there,

I did a search there are people looking for this same thing with much difficulty. I did find one but it is expensive and last for only 2-4 hours. But I would imagine your brother would think it is well worth it on certain occasions. www.BatterySpace.com in the search box type blanket. They have one for $198.00 battery time is 2hours. The one for $398.00 lasts 4 hours. But say he where going to watch a parade in the cold the 2 hour one would be welcomed I am sure. Also, at Lands End the Polartec blanket was said to be very warm also, high wool lined boots. I hope this gives you a start.

I myself have never seen those types of blankets. I don't use electric blankets myself. Have you considered getting him a blanket made of Alpaca? They canbe expensive but I absolutely LOVE mine. You could get him Alpaca socks too - my feet are always cold and I wear my alpaca socks all winter and they are great at keeping my feet toasty warm. Alpaca is warmer and softer than wool. My parents raise alpacas and sell alpaca made products in Ortonville.

You could also search eBay for mink blankets. My uncle bought 2 small ones for my twin boys (of course he has all grand-daughters so he bought 2 pink 'my little pony' blankets for my BOYS!) when they were born and I keep them in our mini van in the winter to put over their laps to keep them warm and they work great.

Good Luck!

Just a thought but what about a medical supply place. They might be able to order one. Possilby that his insurance might even cover? Not sure though.

I have even seen blankets that warm to your body tempature.
They are like electric blankets without having to use electricity. Ck Kohl's.

Best of luck to you.

Have you tried getting a hot water bottle?
They sell them on amazon - fill with boiling or very hot water from a kettle or microwave and then place wherever you want warmed - great for putting on your lap or feet and also good for warming beds and relieving cramps - they last for years and are as portable as you can get. My Dad who lived in the UK and had MS swore by his to keep him warm going in to town each day on his motorised buggy to get his newspaper and that was 2 miles each way, EVERY day no matter what the weather...Good luck in your search!

Brookstone has a lot of battery operated warming devices... socks, gloves, and I'm quite sure blankets too.

Hi, I saw that Brookstone has some battery operated warming fleece jackets..you could check that out. Maybe they have a blanket too, or you could get 2 sewn together and altered to make your own! good luck, it sounds like a really sweet, thoughtful gift. : )

I've never seen battery operated ones - if you think about how much power they take from just the wall socket, I'm not sure battery operated ones would even work. Good luck though.

I don't have any source for battery operated blanket but similar to what Mary Jo posted I was just at the new Christmas Tree Shop (name is deceiving) in Sterling Heights (on M24) and they had a very plush blanket that was like a shawl...I didn't look that closely to know whether it has arm holes or not. Didn't think about it at the time but when I saw it but when I saw your post it came to mind as a potential option. Good luck with your search.

Hi T.,
I am an occupational therapist and work with alot of folks in wheelchairs and I saw this on TV yesterday and thought it might be perfect for them; maybe it would work for your brother. It does not plug in or have a battery, but is a blanket with arms so you can have it on and go about your business - now the hard part might be him getting it on and off depending on his abilities. Here is the website so you can take a peek. What a nice sister you are!

Threre's this new blanket out with a hood that they call a blanket hoody i believe. I don't know if it's in stores but i think it's made of fleece and is supposed to keep you real warm. I hope that you find something, Michigan weather is so unpredictable I can only imagine what he endures.

Take care,

A
