Liquid Multivitamins for Kids

Good morning everyone!

I have been looking to find a good multivitamin for my 2.5 year old son. He has been having almost continuous cough and cold since he joined preschool 6 months ago. His ped always recommends Zyrtec or Benadryl which I don't believe in giving all the time. I would like to follow a more natural approach to increase his immunity. He is very picky about eating and on the smaller margin of the weight charts. He is otherwise quite healthy.

So my question is, has anyone tried any of these highly recommended multivitamins for their kids at this age and how long and with what benefits/effects:
1) Peter Gillham's kids calm multivitamin
2) IntraKids multivitamin + mineral from Dr.Ducker (extremely pricey)
3) Salus Haus Floradix
4) Any other preferably organic or whole foods based liquid multivitamins (I don't give him the gummies as he has a weak enamel).

I used to give him Poly Vi sol as a baby but now I can't as it has horrible taste. I also tried the Amazing Grass vitamin powder for kids, mixed with milk, water or juice, but it has a very rough texture and it always irritates his throat even more.

Thanks for any suggestions.
D.

Hi,
If your son didn't have sinus/allergy issues before the new school, it sounds to me that he may have a couple things going on. For the first 4-6 weeks after starting the new school, he should have experienced the "new friends, new germs" phenomenon, which causes colds and coughs. After that, I would examine the hand-washing practices of the school. So many of the germs are transferred from child to child when frequent hand-washing isn't in effect. If your son didn't appear to have seasonal allergies before he started school, it's unlikely they've developed in the last 6 months. When my kiddos get a cold, I give them cherry "melty-med" Zicam, to ease their symptoms. It works amazingly well.

Good luck!

I have had trouble getting my kids to drink anything with the more natural/organic pediatric vitamin formulas that come in a powdered form. It tastes awful. That was the only one I found at whole foods that wasn't about $40 (it was still about $17). But if you think he needs it, get one.

Otherwise I'd focus on a pediatric probiotic - they are safe and can be taken daily. Also make sure his diet is rich in antioxidants, try giving him as much of the following that he'll tolerate: sweet potatoes, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, broccoli, red peppers, edamame, etc.

It sounds like your kiddo may have some sensory processing issues. We have this and the sooner you help the better progress. Also classical homeopathy is a wonderful way to support immunity and overall health. With the sensory issues it is important to go to an Occupational Therapist with is certified in sensory processing (SIPT certified). If you want more info you are more than welcome to email and I can give you some names of homeopaths.

There is a great kids supplement that comes in Choclate or Vanilla that all kids love, it has brain food for growing kids complete with all the nutrients for healthy growth. My daughter grew on it and over came eczema and no other health issues.

Let me know if interested and want more info.

I would suggest Shaklee vitamins/minerals -- they have some that are powder and you can dissolve in his milk or other drink. If you need to find someone who sells them, let me know (I don't sell them, just buy them but I know people who do). I give them to my kids (daughter has a milk allergy and they have a Kosher chewable option in addition to the powder that is milk free...so we use that).

We use polyvisol but we don't give it straught. We put it in my daughters watered down juice in the morning and she has never complained about the taste.
