Hello Everyone,

Since my youngest daughter has fallen in love with romaine lettuce leaves I thought I would try to make lettuce wraps out of them. These would also be perfect for those hot summer night dinners as well. I tried a recipe a while back that I got out of a parenting magazine but we didn't care much for it. I can remember exactly what was in it now. Does anyone have a good recipe? Something simple would be best for us.

Thanks =0)

Update: Thanks for the ideas. I 'm looking for something more along the lines of Asian Lettuce Wraps. Sorry, I should have been more specific. Love the idea of the potstickers with the lettuce leaves. I have some at home in my freezer so I'm going to try that out this week in fact =D

Great tips already..
The other item we put in lettuce wraps are potstickers. I buy the Costco chicken potstickers, parboil them, when the water evaporates, add sesame oil to brown, place on a plate with the dipping sauce provided and lettuce.

It's a last minute go to lunch.

PF Chang's has the most amazing lettuce wraps. You could google 'P.F. Chang's Lettuce Wraps' and see if anybody has duplicated their recipe.

tuna salad, egg salad works GREAT in a lettuce leaf!

chicken salad (the canned kind or the stuff you buy from Tyson's) with mayonnaise, grapes (sliced) and walnuts would be good too

Mix together peanut sauce, leftover roast chicken and brocolli slaw (you can buy in bags in your produce section). It makes a great lettuce wrap. So easy! Yum!

Have you ever tried the Orchard Chicken Salad at Subway? My kids love it. Its chicken, cranberries, apples, mayo, etc...that might be good.

We love lettuce wraps (my kids are 6 and 4). We put pretty much anything in them.

I agree chicken salad is great in them. Also, I buy the frozen tyson chicken fajita strips and to use as a filler and add some sliced tomato, onion, shredded cheese and a little light ranch or italian dressing.

We make these all the time and my girls (3 and 4.5) LOVE them:

I cook up about 3 chicken breasts (cut into bite sized pieces) in a wok and add whatever sauce we have (Orange ginger or Asian 5 Spice is our favs), being very generous. When the chicken is cooked, I add coloured peppers (green, red, orange, yellow - usually about 1/2 of each or so, depending on the size). Cook for about 2 minutes and add a package of steam fried noodles over the top. You have to mix the noodles into the sauce to cook them to your desired crunchiness. Then I sprinkled toasted almond slivers and chopped green onion over top. They're SO good. And my husband can even take the leftovers as a stir fry for lunch the next day if he doesn't want to muck with the lettuce leaves.

Lettuce Leaf, Small amt of mayo, cucumber sliced VERY thinly so it will curve with the leaf & lunch meats. I like to add for myslef juillened carrots and mustard, and I like to soak the cucumbers in vinegar (white & red plus a bit of water overnight at least). If you like bacon is a tasty addition but it has to be cooked "just right."

The Korean way to eat lettuce wraps is with sliced marinated beef. The meat is called "bulgogi" and it's sooo yummy. My 2 year old eats it up. Here's a recipe I found online -- I haven't tried it myself (I just eyeball like the old school asians. lol) but it's gotten great reviews:

Do you have Jimmy Johns in DC? Oh my gosh they saved my life when I found out I had Celiac.

They take honking big piece of lettuce and then do turkey, sprouts cheese Avocado spread and more lettuce.

My kids love the wrap with just cheese, meat and a little sprinkle of salt for flavor.

With it being for little kids the simpler the better,...unless you have a little one who loves extras:)

We make these pretty often since they are easy and healthy. They are a little spicy, but you could definitely adjust the heat by adding less garlic sauce or jalapeno.

Chinese Lettuce Wraps:

3/4 lb chicken breasts, cooked (I usually boil them till cooked through)
3/4 cup fresh basil leaves
2 cloves garlic
2 Tbs lime juice
2 Tbs soy sauce
1 jalapeno
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp chili-garlic sauce or any other hot sauce

Put all ingredients in food processor and pulse till combined.

We like to top our lettuce leaves with a bit of the chicken mixture, shredded carrot, shredded daikon (it is like a radish), shredded purple cabbage, and a little bit of peanut sauce, which you can get in the Asian foods section of the grocery store).

I'm throwing in a vegetarian option for you.
You asked for kid friendly ones, and since my son eats everything, I hope this might be an option for you.
We do one with avocado, mushroom, spinach, carrots and sprouts. We have also varied the sauce. Either Thai peanut or sweet and sour. We have also used used the rice stick noodles in the wraps, and used swiss chard, and jicama and soy sauce.
