What is the going rate for a cup of lemonade at a kid's stand? Hubby and I disagree...need additional Mom input. Supplies, of course, are donated by Mom and Dad.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

$0.50 it is! I like the idea of refills for a lesser amount. Will have to add that to the sign. Thanks everyone!

Grandma donated a large bag of various sized cups for the kids to use. Small cups = $0.25 & large cups = $0.50.

I think the norm is 50 cents, I've seen it be $1. If you do 50 cents, make the cups smaller.

Most people buy to give the cute little kids money, so I think they'd be willing to pay $1. I remember one time my oldest, who was then 8, caught some bugs with his friend and they were selling bugs for $1. It was so cute! My neighbor bought them all.

There is a fantastic organization called the "Alex's lemonade stand foundation". https://www.alexslemonade.org/

Basically, your kid/group holds a lemonade stand, the foundation sends you a few signs and things, and when you're all settled, you send a check into the foundation and the monies goes into funding for Pediatric Cancer research. This will be our 3rd year holding our Walk 'n' Lemonade event in Tucson, AZ. Our 7yr old daughter is a 4yr cancer survivor and this is our way of helping to give back. http://walknlemonade.com/

Part of this is teaching them how to make change, do math, market products, negotiate and sell, recycle, raise money for charity right?

So get a few rolls of quarters and nickels and go for it!

1 cup for 0.50, two for 0.75 (and 1 refill for 0.25), three for $1.00.

Cup deposit (for recycling, not re-use) 5 cents -- that is, everyone who puts their cup in the recycling bin gets a nickel.

Put a coffee can out for a charity and suggest that the cup deposits go there, and anyone who waves off the deposit, your child can donate on his/her behalf.

Have a great time, I was just thinking that the season is upon us!

It depends on the area in which you live. For instance where I live I would not pay more than 50 cents for a small cup, but where my church is located I would be willing to spend 50 cents to a dollar. Good luck

Are you trying to make a profit or just let your kids have a little business venture? I would keep in mind that a lot of people stop because we like seeing kids with lemonade stands and love dropping some change in the jar. Think in terms of what people will have on them--I never have cash on me, but often have some change in the console in my car. I wouldn't charge more than $.50 or $.75. Keep it easy to count out with change but reasonable. Nobody is going to the bank to stop at a stand, but somebody might be bummed they can't buy a cup of lemonade from your child because they don't have enough in change. I can't wait to start seeing these out for the summer! :)

P.S. Reading the bottom of your question--keep it to $.50 or $.25 then--it will add up for your kids, most people can find a quarter, and often adults will give them a little more because it makes us remember our lemonade stands. :)

I sold lemonade for $0.15 per dixie cup back in my time. Using the U.S. government provided Consumer Price Index (CPI) data, that cup would cost $0.50 today. (Really!!)

But, yes, most people gave me more than $0.15! The tips were great and my folks never made me pay for the cost of goods. Have fun!!

Lemonade stands are about kids having fun selling lemonade, not making a profit. I have never seen lemonade at a kid's stand cost more than 10 - 25 cents. If you plan on turning this into a profitable business you need to get a business permit. Have fun

SOOO CUTE!!! I wish we lived in a location where we could sell lemonade!

I think $ .50 is reasonable, and you'll get lots of $1.00's.

Have fun!

This last Sunday, it was "Lemonade Day" here in Austin. There were lemonade stands all over town..
It was to help kids learn about running a business and donating to charity. The suggested price was .50 per cup. I purchased some from some girl Scouts.. They topped it off with some mint from one of the grandmothers garden! They were also selling cold bottles of water.. Very clever girls..

Have fun!

First buy inexpensive items then the cost of the drink has to pay it back and make it worthwhile. Then you decide the costs. I don't think the drink should be over 1.00 for a small cup.

I would get the 5oz dixie cups and sell them for a quarter. people really only drink a little bit anyway. and at a quarter a cup you will come out way ahead. and no muss no fuss as far as change goes.
