Leapster Vs. V.Smile?

I'm really interested in getting one of these for my older daughter (3 years in March), but am torn between them. She's really into games on the computer, but we just got a new one and would like to divert her from using it with one of these systems...but I have no idea how they compare. I tried to put them head-to-head standing in the aisle at Target (but had no clue).

I'm wondering if anyone whose child has had one can give me some pros and cons please?

Thanks! A.

What can I do next?

I looked up the reviews on Amazon.com about them and the Leapster had much better reviews. Here's my experience: A couple years ago for Christmas I asked for a Leapster for my daughter from her Grandparents. Instead they got her the Fisher Price Power Touch one and wouldn't ya know it, they quit making it a few months later. Now we have a machine with no more games. Now I stick with the Leapster all the time.
Happy Shopping,

We have both, and it can really go either way. Both have games that will grow with your daughter, but personally my kids like their leapster better. They like that they can take them anywhere, in the car or to a Dr office, and my son(3)has an easier time with some of the games.

I bought my son a V.Smile last year and he stills loves it. It is really easy for him to play by himself and I get a little relax time while he plays. The instructions and directions are simple and he has no trouble at all understanding what to do next. I love the sound of him cheering when he does something correctly and the music plays! He has never played with a Leapster, but I really think that his V. Smile was a great investment!

We have 2 leapster l-max's and both my kids love it 8&4 my son 4years old loves it he never leaves the house with out it we also bought the backpack for it I love it because they both wanted video games for x-mas and i am very consious of what they do and watch and i love that ALL the games are learning but fun so the kids do not know my son litteraly plays with it 2 times a day and it comes with cords to plug into the tv and they can play on the big screen like a playstation or something. My friends kids have the vtech but hardly play with it except on long trips but when they come to our house they always play leapster. I dp not know about the ztech i just love all the leapfrog toys we have ever bought and we now love our leapster l-maxs I even play sometimes.

We got the Vtech V-Smile when my daughter was three. She is now almost six and still loves it! The games grow with your child. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this system. I recommend it hands down over her leapster leap pad. She plays with both but the V-Smile she keeps going back to and learns so much! I would put my money into again and again!

We have the Vsmile and LOVE it!! Our 3 and a half year old has played with it since she got it a year and a half ago. Our year and half old plays on it too now. For Christmas our daughter (3) is getting the pocket Vsmile for Christmas so that she can use it when we travel to Grandparents house.
My sister-in-law bought the Leapster last year for her daughter who is 6 weeks older then ours. She says she wishes she bought the VSmile because Hailey always see the characters on the shelf on the games and wants to play with those games.
Not sure if this helps, but good luck!!

We got the Vsmile for my son last year and while he liked it...it wasn't the *wow* factor I had hoped he'd have over it! HOwever...he had played on his daddy's Xbox too...so he was used to the little controllers...so the big one was almost a nuisance to him.

We got him the Leapster Lmax this year for Christmas...maybe our 18 month old will get more use out of the Vsmile...but we weren't all that impressed. With other little ones around...the cords are a problem too. My diva LOVES to harass her brother by pulling cords. :)

Good luck!

We bought my sone a Leapster and found that it will grow with him londer than the others out there. Leapster also just came out with a unit that can allow it to connect to the TV at home so you can play with your child. I really like the varitey in the Leapster game system.

It honestly depends on your child's preference. We have both. We got the leapster when my oldest son was 2 (he just turned 4 in Sep) and he barely looked at it. He got the V-smile for Christmas and he loves it. The games start out for 2 year olds and go all the way to 10 (I think). If your child is really into video games on the computer then the v-smile would probably hold her interest longer.
