We're still looking into the Leapster Explorer -- and want to know if there are educational games available. From a search on this website, there are a lot of recommended games (Dora, Mr. Pencil, Toy Story, etc.) but those sound recreational (although, I've never seen them, so I don't know.) There's nothing wrong with recreational games at all! However, I would also like some recommendations for games with an educational slant (if they exist), specifically ones for pre-reading skills and pre-math skills. My kids are almost 5 and 4 and they LOVE playing the educational apps I've found for my IPhone (such as "SuperWhy")
So which educational games do you strongly recommend? Thanks for your advice!
I think its educational. Daughter got one for xmas and Mr. Pencil for her birthday so far they all teach letters and shapes and how to mix colors. I would also recommand pet pals which teaches letters and shapes. Hope the info helps.
my daughter has the cinderella/belle game and the penguins of madagascar one. While they are recreational, they are also educational, encouraging reading and math.

We got it for our daughter (almost 5) for Christmas and she has Mr. Pencil and Toy Story. Toy Story doesn't get played with very much, but she LOVES Mr. Pencil, and it teaches shapes, letter sounds, mixing colors, copying letters and words, etc. We got Mr. Pencil on recommendation from family members with a six and four year old, they love it too.
They are very educational. My daughter has Tangled and it's helping her to recognize words and spell. Everything made by Leap Frog is educational.

Mr. Pencil is probably my favorite for her to play. It helps her practice writing letters, numbers, and drawing shapes. And she loves it!
Dora is her other favorite to play. It teaches about maps, cultural things, and of course some Spanish.
Toy Story she hasn't played much (she got all of it for Christmas so might have been a little overwhelming lol), but it has some phonics, letters, spelling & science.
I think most of LeapFrog's products are educational in some way. These are fun games, but they are learning as well!
We have both the Tag Reader and the Leapster. I find the Tag to be much more educational. Plus it has games, too. But the leapster is educational too. We don't have Mr Pencil yet but I think I will grab it.
