I am seriously considering a Lap-Band to get rid of this excess weight. I am over 100 #'s overweight and nothing seems to work. Anyone have the procedure done or know of someone who has? I have started reading up on it and would love to read some personal, first hand information.

So What Happened?

Good news...we found a local doctor who does the lap band surgery and the cost is right around the amount of our tax refund check. Hmmm...coinsidence? Anyway I'm going to start the process by having a consultation appointment with him next month. Hope I'm fat enough to qualify...lol

Hi W.,
My mother-in-law had the procedure done last year. She has lost weight, and was able to get a hip surgery done because of it.
The downside is her food choices from then on out had to be VERY specific. I don't know all of what she can't eat, but I know it includes potatoes and rice for sure. She eats very little at a time because she will get sick otherwise. And like I said, her food choices are very limited.
This would be great for some people, but if you love all kinds of food and don't want to eat "bird portions" for every meal, you probably wouldn't care for it. Hope this helps some!

My MIL was a few weeks away from this surgery, and decided to try Nutri-System first. That was in January, and she has lost about sixty pounds. She has about forty to go (I think that's what she said, although she looks fantastic right now). I know that the surgery works great, but it's just so h*** o* your body to deal with, especially for a busy mom and Nana! I hope someone has better info for you!

Hello W.!
My name is K.. I just replied to an e-mail from Dr. Eldridge's office regarding my Lap-Band procedure. I too am looking to find someone to converse with regarding this procedure. My husband is so not for it. I am 5'2" tall and am weighing in at 260 lbs. I have insurance through my husband, Pacificare, for city employees. He's a Msgt. for the OKC Police Dept. So far, my primary care physician has referred me to Dr. Eldridge for my consult visit. Last month, I went to Norman to have a psych. eval. completed by Dr. Martin. He approved me for the procedure. Today, Dr. Eldridge's office e-mailed me stating that they have not received my psych. eval. results nor a go ahead from my PCP's office. Pacificare is also dragging their feet about the whole thing. What insurance do you have? Who do you intend to have do your Lap-Band? If at all possible, I would love to keep in touch with you to have someone to share this experience with.
