I am not very technologically savvy and my hubby just bought me an Apple MacBook Pro because our Dell was nothing but problems. The Dell is now for the kids to do homework on. My hubby is a tech guy and says the Apple is very user friendly. Well today is my first day trying it out and where do I go first?? Mamapedia. So far I am navigating ok.

Sooooo, anyone out there with an Apple MacBook Pro? Give me your feedback on what you like or dislike.

Thanks mommas and have great day!! I am heading out for a morning run and I look forward to hearing from ya'll!!

What can I do next?

My boss bought me one 2 years ago and it was the first Apple product I had used since high school. I LOVE it. It is user friendly. I also did the 1:1 classes and learned everything from the Pros. I would recommend taking the classes. I now make really cool photo albums and can edit video. So worth the money.

My husband bought me one 2 yrs ago, and I love it. I know there is an apple Macbook pro class you can take check it out! And if you live in Livermore thats pretty close to their Cupertino offices. I wish I took the class but never got around to it.

We are a family of Dell's and LOVE them and never had issues.

Our 16 yr old's Dell is about 4 yrs old and she was in need of a new one. I was shocked when she and her dad came home with the newest and greatest MackBook Pro.

So far she likes it, she says it takes some retraining because prompts you needed to use on the Dell for the right hand corner is now in the left hand corner.

The only issue she's had is that it wiped her Iphone and Ipod clean. She had it backed up on the Dell and got it all back but it was not a fun process. She also has to get the wifi printer driver set up.

So far, so good. We'll see how it goes. It is supposed to be a great laptop I have had Dell's for ages and I am a brand loyal person but I may be switching myself if hers is that great. I have to be able to run Quickbooks due to my running the family business.

Good luck!

I would love to have one of those. I just have an iMac desktop. Which I LOVE. Both my kids have brand new Toshiba laptops (gifts from a favorite aunt) but they BOTH use MY computer every chance they get.

What specifically do you want to do?

I RABIDLY DISAGREE THAT THEY ARE USER FRIENDLY.

BUT ... I love Love LOVE my macbookPro.

Actually, I'm sure they're user friendly for those of us who didn't grow up with DOS (or for those smarter than I am in that regard ;).

On the apple site there are HUNDREDS of tutorials for we 'converts' who don't "see" that to make everything purple, "just" drag the purple color to it... or that one uses the command button instead of control ( give up control and take command! was the line the 'genius bar' guy tossed my way :)

Which is point #2 The Genius Bar.

They will do 1:1 tutorials, help you shift your stuff, all kinds of good things.

I cannot express how much I *LOVE* my Mac... but the last thing in the world it was for IBM-chick, was intuitive! I'd 2 decades of training on almost the opposite system!

Oh my gosh! I'm working on one right now. I have had Mac laptops since the mid-90s and LOVE them! Drove our computer techie guys crazy at work because both my boss and I always insisted on using a Mac rather than PCs. Fortunately these days many more programs are cross-platform, so finding Mac-compatible software is not the problem it once was.

Pros - Easy to use, few-to-none slowdowns, freezes, compatibility issues or upgrade issues. Great for integrating with your iPad, iPod or whatever, if you have. Fun! Rugged - I actually dropped one once, put a huge dent in the side, and it continued to work for another two years thereafter.

Cons - Price, of course. Also, this summer I had my first processing glitch in years. It wasn't a virus, but somehow data was self-replicating itself in some kind of continuous loop and eating up all the memory until there was none left. My heart just sank when I started it up and only got the blue screen. I hadn't backed up my data in months - oops! Anyway, I took it into a reputable repair shop and $250 later had all my old data back plus a new 500 gig hard drive. So, I guess the lesson is to always back up your data, PC or Mac.

Good luck - I think you're going to love it!

What a fantastic husband!! I LOVE my MacBook air (I've had MacBook pro too)... we actually have 2 Mac laptops and 2 Mac desktops.... iphones, ipad, itouch, ipod (lol). What I would recommend, in order to get the most out of your Mac is to take the beginner "class". If you are near an Apple store, they offer it there and will give you all of the really neat shortcuts. (They probably even offer something like this online). For the most part though, I have found them to be common-sensical! A feature I love is the calendar and address book, which I use all the time. I can "share" my calendar with my husband AND my iphone is set up in a way that whenever I add a contact, email address, phone number, etc as well as something on the calendar, it sync's wirelessly to my computer... so my phone and my computer always have the most up to date information. What a time saver and organizational tool! Have fun.... and do learn those shortcuts... they are neat!

Nice husband! Good Boy!
Love, love, love all things Mac.
I have an iMac, an iPad2, and an Apple MacBook pro.
I would NEVER buy a PC.
You will love it too!

Here's a tip in case you have to open a document requiring a Microsoft product (the devil!). You can download OpenOffice FREE at www.openoffice.org to be able to open/view/create docs like Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE mine! I would highly encourage you to look into their free classes if you have an apple store near you. That was one thing I didn't know about or understand because my husband bought mine from Best Buy.

I do find it very user friendly. But if you are involved in anything like helping the PTO or even helping a charity organization, most people still do not have MAC's. And even though you can open and see 99% of what is sent to you from a non-mac, if YOU send something to someone they may not be able to open it. But they now have Microsoft Word for Mac's.

Probably my very favorite part is the iPhoto. I've spent many months scanning and organizing our photo's on my computer and it is so easy. Oh, that and the iTunes!

Enjoy and thank your husband.

I love everything about mine! I've had it a year and a half now with ZERO problems. Prior to that, I was burning out a computer every year and constantly losing files. I asked everyone I saw with a Mac for their opinion before I bought my Mac and heard nothing but good things :)

I LOVE mine. But I'm what I call a bit of an "apple slut" - I love everything they make. I've grown up using Macs, use one at work and have two at home. I've had to use other PCs before and I just find Macs so intuitive and user friendly. Just play around, you won't mess anything up, I promise! They also have free courses at your local Apple store if you want to learn your way around. Have fun! :-)

We had a MAC book air that my husband earned in a sales contest. Loved it. But, hard drive crashed after only 1.5 years. Paid $199 to replace only to have the RAM crash maybe 3 months later. We are very careful with it. Reviews say they overheating easily. I would definitely invest in the apple care. We didn't have it and now it will be $300 for the RAM repair. We don't want to put that kind of money into it again. Very disappointed :( I think the pro has fixed some of these issues.

Just one main thing to complain about with ours.... we have 2 little ones, and they really don't bother the computer, so I doubt it was them. However we have been having a problem with the charge cord-- when you plug it into the computer the light won't come on to say it is charging.... now we have to prop it up in a certain way and hope it charges all night... yesterday I had it plugged in while using it, with the light 'charging' on, but it still was losing power. We've only had it for a year. We'll have to take it in or do something about it soon.
Good luck!
