Last night my son ate, and ate, and ate. He had oatmeal, 3 pieces of applesauce cake (sans frosting, thank goodness), and a hamburger and a half (we're talking thick hamburgers on thick bread). Then he drank a half pint of water or so. When I picked him up to take him bed, I swear he was 5 lbs heavier. He's only two, but a very big boy. So I'm asking, what's the craziest thing your child has ever eaten?

And holy #$@$@#%@% Melinda, someone always has to come along and ruin the fun. I was NOT asking for any advice, so please keep it to yourself.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I love all the answers, keep it coming. Oh, and we get plenty of vegetables, etc. I'm always willing to let my children try new things and I like them to eat what I do as well. Hopefully I keep finding more ways to expand their little palates.

My youngest has always had a very adult palate, makes sharing meals so much fun for Mom! At around 18-24 months she was eating sushi, shrimp salad and veggie stir fry. I made each family member their favorite appetizer for Oscar Night and at 7 she chose shrimp cocktail. It was delicious;)

My kids always ate absolutely everything.
Especially my son.
If he didn't eat like crazy, he was either sick or going on a growth spurt.
He always makes up for it though.
There is nothing my son won't eat.
He begs for brussel sprouts, eggplant, he'll eat things even I won't eat like liver and squid.
He wants to be a chef so he is willing to try every single thing.
I think you should be glad to have such a healthy eater. Encourage it in him.
Make sure you introduce vegetables and fruit as part of every meal and he'll be just fine.

My 11-year-old son will try ANYTHING. We were watching Deal or No Deal a few years ago. They were in Vietnam and offered the contestant an extra $50K if he would eat a local delicacy. It was a half-formed bird inside an egg and sounded as gross as could be. He chirped up "I'd eat it for nothing"! He has jumped at the opportunity(?) to eat bugs when they're presented as interesting food, like on a lollipop or chocolate-covered.

Brought home those gross-flavored Jelly Bellys for April Fools and all 3 kids willingly ate and swallowed flavors like vomit, centipede, baby wipes, skunk, toothpaste, etc. They had a blast with them and it was such fun for all of us. My husband and I encouraged them to spit out anything they wanted but they ate them all. Extra bonus for me? They can never again turn up their noses at veggies!!

Gotta love those growth spurt meals. Bet he's going to sleep a ton next few days too.

My kids love olives stuffed with pimiento, and capers. Three of them once at an 8 oz jar of capers at one sitting (in conjunction with a broiled fish dinner.) They will eat almost anything if I sprinkle capers on it.

My youngest at 17 months ate a Thai curry that my husband made. Not just ate... devoured! He kept asking for more. I think he ate about 16 ounces of curry! We tried to offer him rice, but he just kept asking for more and more curry. Go figure.

My just-turned-1 year old daughter loves everything and, since we're foodies, we give her EVERYTHING. She first tried balsamic vinigar reduction at 9 months, hot salsa at 10 months, this week had curry chicken salad and last night ate more Indian food than I did! I never hesitate to let her try new foods (except fish or seafood because I'm deathly allergic), new flavors, new spices, new anything. The worst thing that could happen is that she won't like it, but usually, even if she makes a funny face first, she wants more. I am a big believer in "feed them until they're full," so have fun with your healthy eater and expand his food horizons daily!

My son is in a growth spurt right now. He's two and a half and eats more than me when he is growing. Yesterday he ate 2 bananas, an apple, cottage cheese with pineapple, a pb&j sandwich, yogurt and oatmeal and fruit mixed for breakfast, several cups of things like raisins, goldfish, dried banana chips, crackers, a decent sized burrito, a half dozen strawberries, a mandarin orange, hmm, I think that is it, but who knows. Meal time blurs right into snack time.

The funniest thing he's eaten (besides the disgusting combos of peas in his yogurt or whatever) is a huge chunk of parmesan cheese. He loves it. I was letting him help me assemble a baked ziti for dinner, and looked over and he had picked up the brick of parmesan and was just gnawing on it. We call it stinky cheese. Just tonight he wanted some when he saw me grating it for spaghetti, and begged for the "yucky cheese". He does try all kinds of stuff, but hasn't loved any weird things as much as he loves stinky cheese.

Oh, and the other day after lunch out with my mom where he ate all his food and half of ours, I had to adjust his carseat straps bigger because his belly was so full!

That is very funny!! The other day my daughter ate pudding, american cheese and jello (this was right after coming home from daycare and having a snack!). Then she ate a full dinner!!

As far as the craziest, I think it would have to be the spaghetti with applesauce on it....or maybe the chips dipped in chocolate milk....or maybe even ranch on pretty much everything!

None of my kids have ever been into eating lot's at one time , there has been the odd occasion this has happened. My son once ate 15 pancakes for breakfast (mini ones). And my 22 month old ate quite a spicy curry a few months back.

When my daughter was 3, she decided she wanted a snack, so she helped herself. I walk into the living room and there she was sitting on the couch talking bites out of a large 3 lb block of cheese.

You're right. This is fun!

My daughter drank a HUGE cup of coffee (I had run into the bathroom and was gone for less than a minute!) when she was 18 months.
My nephew ate an entire purple onion when he was two.

Cute question!

When Z was little (and would hardly eat anything) he fell in love with Chipotle. The Carnitas bowl, to be exact. He must've been close to 2 1/2 when he ate almost the WHOLE thing!
Talk about a growth spurt! :)

My three year old dips everything in ketchup. If I give him ketchup for fries or tots or a hotdog, he will also dip in his chips (doritos, cheetos, any of them) and then he will eat what is left with his fingers. He will also dip his veggies in it. It is gross to me but he loves it!

We used to call my son "The Black Hole," with his mouth being the event horizon, because he could eat half a six-inch submarine sandwich in one bite, half a large piece of pizza in one bite, or an entire doughnut in one bite. Of course, he was a teenager, not a two-year old. It was pretty funny, though.
