Thanks denise j for inviting me! Now I see what all the hubbub is about! (see my prior post). Ok, so I literally spent 6+ hours on it yesterday but I don't really understand how it works. My biggest issue is that when I click on a picture I like, it takes me to a blog or website that originated the recipe. But then to save the recipe, I was copying and pasting into a word doc. Is that how it works?

And I don't know where all my boards are. Like how do I know what I have "pinned"? And some of my fb friends are "following" me. Why? So they can see what I'm saving?

I guess I'm just not clear on how to access my pinned stuff. Is that making sense? And I kept searching "easy recipes" and then I would click on a pic, a person with more pics would pop up, I just don't get how to save stuff I want to and when I do, how do I find it again????

So What Happened?

I guess whats confusing and I will get with time is that say I see a picture of a good chicken dish. I can "pin" or repin it, which saves it to my board. But say months from now, I find it on my board, I click on it and it takes me right to that recipe? I guess I feel like I have to click on it to see the details. Like I can't tell from the pic if its a truly easy recipe I want to save. So if I'm going to bother to click all the way to the website, I might as well copy and paste it to a word doc and just save it that way. Does that make sense? Anyway, these responses have helped. I know its like anything and I have to play with it to see what I want to use it for and get used to it. Thanks everyone!!!!!

NOTE: Because I am a nerd I wanted to let you all know there is a copyright issue a brewin with pinterest. - be sure to track back and give credit to pins.
If you like an Etsy story, ask t hem if you can pin, if you like a recipe, don't put the whole recipe in the caption, track back.
Even better, if you are going to "pin" sometehign from a site (not pinterest) make sure they have the "Pin It" or shoot them a quick email to ask if you can pin it.
I LOVE pinterest, but I have had my eyes opened and will be taking a bit more precautions when it comes to what I pin, re-pin and getting consent.
Think Napster but with pictures. . .

I follow people to see their pins and boards. My niece has great taste..in all things, so I want to see what shes finding! I follow several of my daycare gal-pals as they post curriculum, daycare spaces, lunch ideas and just all around group child fun fun fun! I have many boards myself!

For me, its alot of skimming what my pals have pinned..then when I have more time I actually search for things on my own. I also know how to pin from internet (just learned that), so when I see a blog post, etc that I like, I can pin it so it shows up on Pinterest (and others have the chance to see it and pin, etc). A few of my own pics are even on there (of my daycare set up).

As far as recipes...as I said, I do alot of skimming, so I just pin them to my board I created (Mine is called FEED ME~), then when I actually want to make them, there they are for me to look at again closer this time, and see if its something I REALLY want to try (and add to my list for ingredients, etc).

I only go on there when I really have time. Its a fun way to pass time, but it IS useful to me. I have tried a bunch of recipes...some not so great, a few we will use again for sure! Alot of daycare ideas and some just plain silly things for inspiration and to get a giggle!

I view pinterest as a big magazine where I cut out the posts and put them in seperate, categorized boards. Yes, you do have to click on the link that somone pins in order to get the full recipe, DIY project, etc.
I love it and have tried alot of new recipes and have more to try.
It's just kind of a way to organize blogs. Oh and the more people you follow the more you will have to chose from on your main pages. So, start following people.

There is a button that should pop up in the right hand corner that states "repin". You click this button and save it to a board you create on your page.

In the upper right hand corner by your picture there is a drop down menu that allows you to look at your boards "my boards" this is how you view what you pin.

when you click on something you like, it should give you the option to pin or repin it. you choose the board onto which you want to pin it (they have pre-set boards or you can create your own) and voila! if you click on your own name it should bring up your page with all your boards and pins.
not sure what the following does. haven't figured that part out yet.

If you like something, you hover over it and at the top you will have an option to "re-pin". Click that and it will ask you what board of yours to save it in. To view the whole thing, that's when you click on it to go to the blog, etc. To see your boards, click on your name at the top right of the screen. It will take you to your page. You can add new boards too.
And yes, people "follow" you so that they can see what you have and get ideas from you.

This doesn't really have to do with your question - and I'm not on pinterest myself - but just thought I would pass along this article that one of my co-workers posted about it. It reiterates what Christy J. said about copyright issues there:
