Going to my house late one snowy Christmas eve, eve night. All the snow was built up in my back tires and rubbing. He says pull over I'll get it off. (Thinking it was weird, but nice pulled over) He was taking FOREVER. I finally got out of the car to ask what he was doing. He said, "I got it, get back in the car" He was acting weird but I didn't pick up on it. He got back in the car pulled the box out and asked me. I remember first saying "Are you for real?"

August 9, 2001, a Saturday and my moms 50th bday...
He sent me on a scavenger hunt of sorts to all our special places. While I was out driving around and collecting envelopes from strangers and under rocks...he went to my house and asked for my parents blessing.

Who was mad? LOL. His mother. She cried. Not out of joy.
She told him I was a "dirty hippie" and that he shouldn't marry me. :(

Oh well. You win some, you lose some. Lol. ;)

Aww, your story is cute!!

Last Christmas, we were BROKE, and focused on the kids. I got him one thing, he got me one thing (or so I thought). I opened my gift last (a new iPod dock because my husband broke my old one), and then I read the card... in the card, he kept talking about us saying the 'f' word a lot... I was like 'what on earth is he talking about?!) Then at the bottom of the card, he said something about 'now go look in the microwave for a nice hot cup of imported coffee!'... I love some coffee, so I was like 'YAY!!'... I popped open the microwave, and there was the ring. I jumped back like I had seen a rat; backed into a rack full of kitchen stuff, turned around, and he was on his knee, asking for my hand in marriage. I screamed like a girl and was shaking so badly I couldn't get the ring out of the box, LOL!! The kids were jumping up and down going YAAAAAY, FINALLY!! :) The 'f' word he was referring to was FIANCE ;)

July 13, 1996...we were on a United Airlines flight back to Germany after meeting the families...

I was sleeping and he woke me up as the sun was coming up and asked me how I thought the trip went ....I was a little snippy because I was SLEEPING!!! :) I answered, turned to go back to sleep, and he asked what I thought of him...I said I think you're wonderful....then he said "wonderful enough to marry?" I said what?! He pulled out the ring box (that my family and friends had seen BEFORE ME!!) and said "will you marry me?"

the rest is history....

He asked me right after we closed on the house we spent a year building. We went to the house and I ran around every room figuring out where to "start" and it was a good 10 minutes before I realized he wasn't with me.

I found him in the kitchen with a bottle of champagne (builder had put it there for him), on one knee by the sink. It was an insane year- built a house, got engaged planned a wedding and got married all in the span of 18 months but I wouldn't change a tihng about it.

No one was mad about it. Family and friends were thrilled. If anyone was upset they didn't tell us!

During a stroll on a crisp December night just after midnight around the reflecting pool in DC. Complete surprise, although he had told his parents 4 months earlier that he was going to ask me. Very romantic.

October 27, 1985 - Homecoming dance at his frat house. He got sooo drunk! I mean bad. I was so pissed. He thought he had lost his contact but he wasn't sure. We went to the bathroom and it was stuck behind his eyeball! Yeah, that drunk!!! As I was driving home to his parents house, yes he lived with his parents, I was bitching and saying I was tired of always being the one to drive home after his frat parties because he was always drunk! He kept saying "baby, I'm sorry, I love you". I get him to bed and his mom asked if he had too much to drink and I said "yep but I got it". I went to the bathroom and came back and he had the ring box open and sitting on the bed. I looked at him and the ring and got sooo pissed! I told him to put it away until he was serious. He said "I am serious". I said "well, aren't you going to say anything?" Then he asked! So, no it wasn't the proposal I always dreamed of but you bet I said yes! I didn't want him to change his mind!!!! My dad was on a business trip in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, so he called there to talk to my dad. His parents got up out of bed and all his mom had was cooking sherry to toast with. Yuck! We called my mom and brother in Ohio and she started crying. Those were tears of joy my parents really liked my husband (still do!) We just celebrated 25 years of wedded bliss so something worked. Oh, and I received a new ring! Very nice!

It took forever for him to officially ask me... it was assumed because I was pregnant... grr When he finally did ask me and my great big belly, we were in the laundry room of all places! He said somethin about when 'we get married' and I said "well ya know, you never reaaaally asked me to marry you." He turned me around and got on his knees, with his arms around my waist (as far as he could) kissed my belly and said "M. I love you with all my heart, I cannot imagine my life without you, will you please marry me?"

Good question,, is a nice memory =)

Oh no Emily that is terrible of your MIL!! =(
I love how he went about asking tho =)

Tee hee hee, I have the LEAST romantic story.

I'd been with Max for four years.

I had been in my jamies all morning and hadn't yet brushed my teeth. My bangs were sticking up from my forehead from where I'd been yanking on them. The bio-father of my niece, whom we raise, was making threats (again). I was talking to lawyers, the courts, to insurance companies, child protective services, kinship care advocates/allies, was writing e-mails, responding to e-mails. I was a mess.

I went out our back door for a cigarette, and was crouched down under my fifteen winter layers, tears in my eyes. Spent.

Max walked out and simply said, "Let's just do it." I said, "What?" "I just filled out an application to get married. Let's just go to the courthouse and get married. To hell with everyone, there's not going to be a perfect time. So f*c* it. Let's get married."

I said, "Okay." And then I went into the house and made some more phone calls.

Three weeks later, in my mom's house, we did get married and it was beautiful.

July 1989, we were having a nice summer Saturday together, his kids were with their mom. We'd moved in together, then back out, then back in, and it hadn't all been rosy, to say the least.

We were at a local beach getting some sun, when he rolled over and asked "Will you marry me?" I said "Yes". He rolled back. Then he says "I was serious". And I said "I know"...

His ex was the maddest about it, even though she was already remarried. My family thought I was crazy, I'm sure, but I didn't care.

I remember being in one of the biggest arguements with my now husband at the time. I went off to work the morning after our huge fight and I wasnt getting home until about 7:30 - 8:00pm that night. I came home and the house was all dark so I figured great he is upstairs playing stupid video games or something and we are clearly going to continue this fight at some point. I went upstairs to our room to get ready to take a shower and when I came up the stairs the door was closed over - very unusual - and I almost got scared to go in but as I opened the door I found him on one knee with the whole room glowing with like a 1000 candles and him proclaiming his love for me
We have been happily married for 7 years today

Oh I love these stories.

He was home on leave to see us, my son and I. He booked a night at the Hilton in Chicago, we went to a very romantic dinner at the revolving restaurant on top. I though he was going to ask me at dinner, no. I looked at the wine glasses to see if one had been fused around the stem, no. He left for the bathroom, so I thought and came back, no ring.
I gave up.
Then he said let's look around the hotel. He led me to the Presidential Suite where Champagne and chocolates and a dozen roses were waiting. I turned around and he was on his knees. How could I say No.

He ahd already take do my dad. His mom was fine with it. I don't think anyone was mad, I think they were more like, It's about time.

December 24, 1991 - All day long my father kept calling the house to find out if my mother had been able to rent a camcorder...boy am I dating myself...those things were too expensive to buy. We were home from college on winter break. When I questioned why was it soooo important to have a camcorder, my mother explained that we were having company on Christmas Eve for the first time in a long time (her cousin, his wife and their daughter). I just shrugged it off. He showed up with a bouquet of wildflowers and a long white box. The wildflowers were for my mother and when I opened the white box there was a dozen long stem red roses and 1 white rose (which are my favorite). He got down on one knee in front of my ENTIRE family and asked me to marry him. He moved a leaf on the white rose and my ring was around the stem. It turns out 3 days prior that he came to visit (I thought me) and ask my father's permission. My family was excited because he was and still is a wonderful person. We then went to his grandparents house where his cousin stated "Well that was a stupid thing to do". He's the only one who voiced any kind of negativity. I was 19, Ron was 20 and on November 6 we will be celebrating 18 years and 5 kids together. I still get butterflies just thinking of him all these years later!

Thanks for the question...it's so nice to reminisce.

My husband asked me to go on a picnic with him, so I said okay, and packed some things. Didnt know where we were going, but he took me to the place where we had our very first date. It was so cute, same bench and everything. We sat on "our" bench and ate, and I felt like something was up. He asked me to get something from the cooler and when I turned back around he was down on one knee, and asked me to marry him. I was surprised but happy!

We got married October 27th, so our anniversary is coming up again, wonder what he will do lol!

He wanted me to go to a car show with him about 3 hours away. I went but wasn't happy because car shows are boring and we would be there all day. I didn't speak to him half the way up there. He took me to a fancy dinner and we ate. Then he gets up and says I didn't bring you here to a car show, I wanted to ask you to marry me. We stayed in a nice hotel with a jacuzzi in the room.

I'm blessed with a very romantic man. He opens doors, insists on opening my car door, he texts me every day. He sends me flowers. He calls me silly love names and doesn't care who hears him. He tells everyone I'm the love of his life. He knows how many days we've been married (12 1/2 years). He sent me a dozen roses on our 50 day anniversary! So, as romantic as he was while we were dating, I expected a big, built up proposal. We were in line for lunch at burger king (and it was really crowded) and he just blurted out "I love you, let's get married". I said "Do yu call that a proposal?" So he got on one knee and loudly proclaimed how much he loved me and asked me properly. No ring, though - we picked it out together.
