JFF - Any Good Ghost Stories??

My children LOVE ghost stories. Last night we were able to attend a Victorian Ghost story reading at a local mansion, and then take a tour of the mansion at night. What a treat! But it got me to thinking of real life ghost stories and one my MIL told me years ago.

About 20 years ago, my MIL bought a parcel of land on the edge of the Everglades and built her dream house. In the following year, they aquired several neighbors. They and their neighbors all worked very hard to landscape the sandy soil and the neighborhood started to really take shape. One night she awoke to voices on the front porch. She peeped out her bedroom window and saw a man and an Indian chief standing at the edge of the porch, surveying the land around the house. They spoke, pointed to things, nodded their heads, and in general looked pleased with what had been done to the land. My MIL was never so happy to have a security system - not that it would help against ghosts. The next night, she heard the voices again. She was too afraid to get out of bed to look. As she laid there in the dark, petrified, she felt the presence of 2 people slide into bed with her, one on either side. Summoning up her last bit of courage, she said "I understand you are pleased with what we have done to the land. But this is my land now, and you must leave me in peace." And they did. She never heard or saw them again.

Anyone else have a good ghost story they'd like to add? Might make some good reading tonight or as Halloween approaches! Happy Halloween everyone!

8kidsdad.... really? :( i'm disappointed.

my "story"....

i was in college and a friend started dabbling in the occult. she was always a bit "different" to begin with...eventually she locked herself in her room for several days with nothing but some books, a ouija board, and other weird things. and basically went out of her mind. her parents came and took her home four hours away, leaving all of her "things" she was so obsessed with, behind.

the room stayed closed for a few weeks until a new roommate was found. as they began to clear out the other girl's things, VERY strange things started happening. bloody (looking) words appeared on a dresser mirror stating "this is "X"'s room!" handprints appeared to be coming out of the walls on the wallpaper border and posters the girl had put up.

my cousin (who lived in the house) called my uncle who is very religious, he brought his pastor and they did some sort of "cleansing" or prayer ritual in the room. they helped the girls move the items into the garage.

we found out a couple days later, through the girl's sister, that the night all of this happened, the girl's condition had deteriorated to the point she was catatonic, and began foaming at the mouth. once the prayers were said and the episode at the house ended, she began to recover.

THAT is a freaky story. and, although i wasn't there, two of the girls were my cousin and a very dear friend, who i completely trust. and i saw the "artifacts" in the garage the next day. CREEPY.

8kidsdad, I'm sorry, I think you misread this posts. She asked for ghost stories not a political rant.

My grandpa passed away in June of 03. The first Christmas that he was gone, I was sitting in my living room and a commercial came on. There was five grandkids running amok around their grandad. I was just thinking about how much I was going to miss him when one of my snowglobes started playing. No one was near it, in fact I hadn't winded it in years, I didn't even know it still worked. It played long enough for my husband to come out of a room and hear it, then abruptly stopped.

Needles to say, I freaked out a little. :)

My grandpa (the same one) was in world war 2, station in Japan. He told us kids that there were nights that he and his army buddies would be sleeping when they would suddenly be pushed out of their cots. When they woke up from hitting the floor they discovered everyone else still asleep.

Of course they thought it was somebody in the unit. But my grandad said that he was pushed out one night and got up ready to fight. When he looked over he did see a guy sitting bolt upright in his bed, looking completely freaked out. He told grandpa that he saw him pushed out of bed by a dark shadow. My grandpa didn't believe him at first but as the guy talked he came to realize he was telling the truth.

The guys continually were shoved out of bed until they changed camps. Come to find out, they hadn't been the first unit to have something like that happen at that location. Crazy.

Lol I have a cpl... when I was 15 me and my friend were hanging in her room (her house is old victoria that was built in 1800's had slaves and all that.. there basement even had the slaves bedrooms!!) Weird.. anyway we were standing there with the light on and all of a sudden a shadow appeared on the wall it was a thin black shadow it started on the wall opposite from the door it began moving on the walls and when it got to her bedroom door it went into the crack and disappeared.. We both saw it...

Another occasion I was in the shower when I was 16 and we had those glass doors and I had just got done washing my hair and I looked out and saw a black shadow.. it looked like my mothers so I called out "mom? Don't you knock? Mother! Why are you just standing there?" The shadow remained there the whole time!!! I opened the door and then it was gone!

I have many more but those were the best for me..

Happy Halloween :)

My crazy thing that happened was after my grandma passed away.(my mom's mom) We,(my mom and me) went up to her house. She had a washing machine out in a "open" car port. It was late at night. My mom and me got out of the "running" car and went to get the clothes out of the machine. Not to long after we got out the car the horn blew. We both look at each other and my mom said when she got in she felt a cold chill. Nobody was in or around there. It was strange!

When I was in college, I lived in an apartment that had all kinds of strange activity. Doors would open and shut, voices in dark rooms, that kind of thing. The really annoying thing was it was a playful spirit that liked to hide things- like car keys. I would look all over the place for my keys for what seemed like forever to head to work, only to find them on the end table right beside the door. This happened to my roommate and myself! It was so aggravating and I got to where I would never just leave my keys sitting out.
One night we had friends over. We were all in the living room when there was a knock at the door. When I opened the door, a bright flash of light shot into the open door and across the room. Everyone in the room was stunned. The only way I can describe it is like the flash that you experience when a light bulb blows. I lived on the 3rd floor with an open-air stairwell- there was NO way someone could have done that, let alone run away from me that quickly. I didn't know what to say, but it really freaked my friends out. LOL
Prior to this my roommate stopped sleeping in her room after she kept saying that a man with a hat was at the end of her bed at night. I thought maybe she was a little to easily spooked (which she was-haha), and didn't think much of it. However, one night, I was alone at home watching tv. Plain as day, a man appeared in the adjacent dining room next to the living room- lights on and everything. He was wearing a brown wide brimmed hat, brown clothes, and what looked like some kind of leather-looking sash across the front of his shirt. He had a long beard and was just standing there. When I got up, obviously completely startled, he just disappeared. Just like that. I high-tailed it out there quick! I never saw him again, luckily. It was unsettling for sure and I always felt like I had to watch over my shoulder after that.
We moved out not long after that for other reasons, and no activity followed us. I have no idea what that was all about. We lived next to a swampy area, but I never delved into the history of that area to find out what could have caused all that. It was an experience I'll never forget!

I have a cousin who lost both his parents in a car crash, when he was 18 years old. Not long after they had died, he was at home, washing his car in the driveway. As he was finished drying it off, he stood back to look at the car. He felt an arm around his shoulder and he turned, and there stood his dad, with his arm around him, and his dad said "that looks good, Son". And he disappeared. Weird.

I have another one that involves this same cousin's mother.

My aunt, is also the sister to this boys mother. Anyway,my aunt was in bed one night, and she woke up to the feeling that someone had sat on the edge of her bed, right beside her. She looked up, and it was her sister, who had just died in that car crash. The dead sister told my aunt that she just wanted her to know that everything would be ok, and that she was doing ok. Then she disappeared. I truly believe that when people die that they will come back in some capacity to comfort their loved ones. After my dad died, I was missing him terribly, and had never had any dreams about him, which I was hoping for. Then one night I had a dream that I was sitting on my front porch, and my dad drove up in a black mustang (he had always wanted one) convertible, and yelled up at me "hey J., I just wanted you to know that I'm doing good, and that I love you" then he screeched off and I woke up. I loved that dream. Anyway, Happy Halloween!!!!
